I cleaned one or two of the fans in my computer (just took dust out with an object rather than sprayed it out), and since then my computer has beeped every now and then. I've looked at my computer temperature today and it's gone as high as 68C, so that must be it.

But this has only started happening after I cleaned the dust out. Before that I remember playing a graphically-intensive game and the temperature only being around 55. Any ideas what's making it hot all of a sudden? :s

Maybe you accidently damaged a fan while cleaning. Good replacements are cheap and you may get even cooler temps.

Are all the fans actually spinning? Any chance you unplugged any and haven't reconnected them? Which fans are you talking about? Case fans, heatsink fans?

Did you manually spin the fans?

Good point. Also, if you hoover fans you can damage them by making them spin faster than they were designed for.

The fans are all working and I just cleared them with air spray. Despite this, right now even though I've only just started the computer and haven't done anything, the temps are going 50-55C to 55-60C.

I had to turn them slightly to get the dust out, and the fans spin when I spray them with air.

Maybe debris around bearing restricting movement, did remove fans completely to see if they move freely?

Are you talking about your CPU or GPU temperature? What CPU and cooler are you using? What GPU are you using? Is the heatsink on the CPU fixed solidly or is it wobbling? Help us help you :)

You might have borked the fan when spraying air through it.

Erm, CPU I guess. I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 71C is the highest recommended temperature. Heatsink seems fine.

Where are you reading the temps from?

Is it the stock Intel cooler? Or a larger aftermarket affair?

Just to be sure, try downloading real temp and compare the 2.

Also, make sure core temp isnt just showing you the inverted temps....i.e the temperature below tj max.

Real Temp give exactly the same temps. Here are the temps after only having the computer on for an hour or two while doing nothing strenuous (or at all really):

    Tj. Max: 100C
    Core#0 - 54C - Min: 50C - Max: 68C
    Core#1 - 53C - Min: 49C - Max: 65C
    Core#2 - 51C - Min: 48C - Max: 63C
    Core#3 - 50C - Min: 46C - Max: 62C

    Pretty much.

I'd say it's time to try re-seating your heatsink. Give the four pins a quarter turn whichever way loosens them, turn them back to where they were, and then push the pins back in until they click into place. Check temps again.

I wiggled the thingamajigs, and two of them clicked.

Turned on the computer half an hourish ago and the temps are currently 1-3C hotter, Min about the same but Max at the moment 5-7C lower.
