Just a quick question regarding paypal.

Im buying a laptop from a forum (not this one), and the seller has asked for the funds to be put into his friends account as he does not have one.

Will paypal still cover me if things go belly up?

If anyone knows, Id really appreciate some input

Not unless his friend explicitly states that he is selling the laptop to you.

Sounds very dodgy given that paypal accounts are free. I'd decline to do business until he gets one.

It takes 5 minutes to set up a Paypal account, suggest this to the seller. I'd be very suspicious if he flat out refuses.

    Edit: Ninja'd...

He had one of his own, which I originally paid, but PayPal wouldn't let him withdraw the funds, so he sent them back and asked to use his friends. Is it best to pass?

The very fact that you're here asking this question, answers it. ;)

All sounds very fishy. Buyer beware!

That's too dangerous to risk. Paypal will probably not so concerned about your issue especially if you agreed to send the money even if you're transacting with the paypal account owner's friend. How about wire transfer?

My rule with these things is if I have even the smallest doubt to not go through with it...

Continuing this random thread revival, I'd even go as far as to suggest not buying anything on a forum that costs more money than you can afford to lose, unless you personally know the seller.

Bit-tech has one of the most honourable marketplaces I've used, but even here we've had a few rotten apples over the years.

Agreed, ask him about it. Because it would be awfully suspicious if he refuses anything. So I wouldn't go through with that.
