My best teacher or everything is Youtube. I'm kinda worried that I still have to take much time for this. But I've already gathered some info on homebrewing. I hope this can be a good way to start my own little homebrewing shop. My friends will definitely be invited to be the judge.
Check out this thread. Lots of good builds. More pictures of my build here if you want to have a look. Once you start kegging you will never go back to bottling, so much easier and always a good feeling pulling your own beer from the fridge
Only trouble I find is having enough matured to fill the buggers Also if you don't want a fridge have a look at some beer chillers, I use a maxi 110 to cool mine but I'm not a heavy drinker at home. If you want kegs in the UK pm me and I will give you an email of a helpful guy who sells them. (Norm for any that might know him)
Thought I would resurrect this thread with what I've been up to recently - 40 pints of Woodfordes Wherry ready for the barrel next week and about 18 pints of turbo cider just started - thought I should get stocked up for the summer! Anyone else been busy?
What have people found to be the best value thing to brew? We have all the kit up here sitting unused after we had too many problems making ginger beer. Would prefer to not use a kit but it doesn't really matter.
Probably turbo cider in that scenario, EC. Haven't started anything in ages but thinking of a very highly hopped american style ale soon. Bloody hope the apple season is better this year.
Sounds good. My uncle did something along those lines before, very nice although quite strong. One of the options being talked about was a mead or possibly an elderflower honeywine.
I tried doing mead and it didn't work out that well. I went very basic which was a mistake I think, I should have tried one of the more complex recipes. Plus it seems crap honey is not necessarily a good idea either. However, mead is damn good to drink.
I've been busy this year. 38L Vienna Lager 38L IPA summer session 38L Dark Lager 38L IPA (6%, generous hopping) 38L IPA summer session ( 10L disappeared at a party and got rave reviews, so more was req'd) 38L American lager I'm planning a light lager (got to please the regular crowd), a stout and perhaps a light session ale to round out the summer drinking season. Yes, I'm an alcoholic.
I've got a can waiting to be done now. My back room is a little cooler then most this time of year so I'll do a photo step by step for you. I normally go for a Pilsner beer and I can hand on heart say it's one of the most satisfying things when you open that first bottle, right up there with pressing the power button on a new finished build I collected beer bottles from all over the place, Cider bottles are good. Stick them in the dish washer a few times and then get the sterilizing solution in there. This is where I picked my stuff up from, it's been there for decades:- http://www.tranmerehomebrewcentre.co.uk
I've only ever bottled my Beer, how are those metal kegs pressurised and what are the two lines in/out for?
They look similar to the syrup tanks in milkshake machines so I assume one is CO2 in and the other is output. So the contents of the tank are pressurised when you connect the CO2.
ah yes I get it. I think I'll be researching this for the one after next as I'm doing 40 pints this weekend. I'll post stage by stage.
It's what I do for a living, I'm working tonight and spun off yeast from 3000 Hl of larger, not quite home brew but enjoying your efforts. Shed beer is always better than commercial beers
I have 5.5 Gal of Mead just about to finish brewing in the corner of my bedroom at the moment. Should be having a taste of it in the next week or so .
Oooh - people have been busy Turbo cider is actually suprisingly nice - My recipe is about as simple as they come 4.5l cheapest apple juice I can find 100g sugar 1/2 packet of Young's cider yeast Mug of strong tea (for the cider, not for me) I have considered messing around with additional flavourings (I've heard that crystallised ginger adds a good tang to it...)
