Graphics Upgrade time from 8800 GTX

Looks like a cracking card. I can't see anything wrong with it.

 

I'd still say 7950 over the 660ti, there's an OCed Sapphire model for £239.99 inc VAT on overclockers and it's a lot faster than the 660ti when overclocked. At stock settings performance is about equal, but the 7950 is cheaper.

 

It's more expensive and has slower stock clocks. Plus the extras the 660 ti brings. That doesn't seem to have.
Also everything I've read shows the 660 ti is better for BF3.

 

Probably not at 1080p.
2GB GTX 670 can be had for £10 more.

 

I'd still prefer the 7950 based off it's insane Overclocking potential. That said, the 660Ti is slower than it in general usage.

 

It's not more expensive, and you can't compare clocks on different architectures (Why is my 3GHz P4 so much slower than my 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad!?!?)

 

cant understand why you wouldnt go for a cheap 670 for that kind of money to be honest

I would take the Vapor-X HD 7950 over any GTX660TI, irregardless of what model it is. It is one of the newer HD7950's with boost (850-950) so will perform in line with a stock HD7970. It should also overclock like a beast.

 

I have the 670 KFA2 - the cooler is brilliant - you wont be disappointed.

And no - the extra 1gb of RAM wont do anything unless you game in massive resolutions

OK I think I'm going to get the EVGA 660 ti SuperClocked

As the other card needs a 6 pin & 8 pin power plug. Whereas this one needs 2 6 pins, which I already use anyway.

 

Yea gaming with one screen at 1920x1080 dosn't need more than 2GB.

Id go the nvidea route because the kepler cards are a cut above AMD at the minute. iv heard very good things about the GTX 670 but also the 660ti can be had cheaper without a major performance difference.

I'd go for a 670, like I've got.

I managed to get it for £280 2 weeks ago, and it takes anything I can throw at it at full graphics and still chugs along at 60+ fps.

 

Where? I can't find these.
tbh my budget would suite ~£260 better mind

edit- actually. I f I can get ~£50 or more for the 8800 GTX WC that'd pay for it.

 

Aria was selling a Palit GTX 670 for £270. It is up to £290 now though. Perhaps prices have shifted a little all over.

i Think you might be pressed to get £50 for your 8800, you could give it a try on Ebay or the like. If you put it on for £25-30 i think youd get a quick sale.

 

A long shot but if you know anybody that you trust in america you can get a 670 for £250 from Newegg with free shipping (whithin america), thn get it sent over.
