Thanks lin The only reason I bought a small one is because I wasn't sure if it would work or not - didn't want to waste £40! You seen this? Cheers, r.
Yeah, that's the one I had in mind. "The battle station is heavily shielded and carries a firepower greater than half the star fleet. It's defenses are designed round a direct large-scale assault. A small one-man fighter should be able to penetrate the outer defense." "Pardon me for asking, sir, but what good are snub fighters going to be against that?" "Well, the Empire doesn't consider a small one-man fighter to be any threat, or they'd have a tighter defense. An analysis of the plans provided by Princess Leia has demonstrated a weakness in the battle station."
Its a really nice display actually (I live in the same building as cheese), it certainly is bright and finished in a very nice way (such as the external glass of the vacuum which makes it look very neat). The one thing I would say is to be sure you want a VFD instead of an LCD, the first thing that struck me is that it has a very industrial feel to it which is fine if you like that but an LCD IMHO can be a lot more pleasing on the eye, its a personal preference thing really ...........
That's the same vfd/lcd I fudged a couple of weeks ago You see I made mine work (quite some time ago!!) then put it in a box due to lacking software support and forgot about it. Rememberd about it took it out then promtly killed it with static
Just wired this one up to..... Its just soooooo easy well thats if you can make PCB's It great for the simple fact that you dont have to wire directly to the lcd.
Makin' the case for me getting one of those "grip and strip" jobbies...damn that's a lot of wires :--) Gordon
With all the VFD LCD loving going on this has definately peeked my curiousity. Why do I get this urge to migrate away from backlight LCD's? Good job on the article Cheeseman..
Is there any reason to use a VFD rather than an LCD, or is it just straight-up personal preference? Gordon
VFD's are easier to read (in direct sunlight for example) and don't mind big temp changes... that's about it though r.
VFD in direct sunlight are IMPOSBILE to read. They wash out. That's why you need a filter on VFD out doors... Sorry cheeseman...
no sorry, take your VFD and LCD outside and let direct sunlight hit it, it will look even worse then above, it's sometimes totaly illegible where LCDs are still fine... now with a filter... <pimp> </pimp>
