I'm pretty sure the suit had a 2nd power level that wasn't affected by the power packs, but would limit your oxygen and how far you could run. But yeah the torch would recharge to full if you picked up a power pack.
Just started re-playing this as enough time has gone for the puzzles etc to be interesting again.. My god its so good. If you still haven't given it a shot, do. Its what every FPS should be.
Xen trailer has dropped with a release date of Q2 2019 Valve time prediction award goes to Hamfunk: p.s. necroing this thread welt fitting, don't hurt me.
Couldn't believe it when I was reminded that Half-Life was 20 years old yesterday! Still one of the all-time greats.
It does look rather like they made the entirety of Xen from scratch for this, at which point does this become a mod, a re-master or it's own stand alone title? Either way, almost a decade to the day since the original 2008 trailer. Impressive for a bunch of hobbyists and part timers!
I have been re-playing Black Mesa recently - I haven't played it since the original mod came out, and I bought the stand-alone edition recently. That trailer looks fantastic...
Looks rather epic, black mesa is one of my all time favourite games (well it did have half life to piggy back on!)
Been waiting SO LONG for Xen to be finished. Looking forward to blasting through it again. By the way, for anyone who only played it when it was first launched, PLAY IT AGAIN!!! It's been vastly improved over the last few years and is probably the best FPS you can get your hands on. Piss off! I was only playing it on my Pentium II 300MHz 8MB Permedia 2 a week ago!
... I think this is the most appropriate thread to revive, just to let folks know it's now released in a full form including the re-imagined and expanded Xen levels! Look forward to sinking my teeth into Black Mesa tomorrow.
Xen's been released?!? I am so damn happy right now. I played through it quite recently, so can jump straight in.
Got to play this today, and have got up to where I believe I'm just about to meet Gonarch. Going to leave it for tonight as I want to get on with other things. The Black Mesa team continue to impress. Xen has been completely re-imagined and even some like to say that in the original it was a weak end to a great game, there's no way that can be said now.
I bought Black Mesa last night , i played it after it was just released a few years ago but i was well impressed last night , flat out in 4k on the OLED and the HDR looks amazing. I know what im doing on the sofa for the rest of the week!
I just completed this about 30 minutes ago. WOW. I thought that the core of the game, running around Black Mesa, was impressive. Then came Xen. I can't believe how well it's been done. A small group of amateurs armed with nothing but ambition and passion have turned it into a masterpiece of how to do an alien world/dimension. It is now so big that it feels like a journey rather than an afterthought strapped on the end. What's more, the difficulty level ramps up well during the course of the game. The two end game bosses are incredible in their execution and the equal of Doom 2016's battles. Moreover, the introduction of the Combine from HL2 has been retconned into Black Mesa in a fantastic way, to the point that enemy behaviours have been changed in extremely interesting ways. 11/10.
