I have new idea here-it is mATX case that i call Scorpio. I plan to make it out of 8 mm plexi (in most areas there will be two 8 mm plates so it is 16 mm thick). Sructure will me secured with stell bars and M6 screws. All plexi is tranparent.
Looks deadly. Hollow out a spot in the legs for the pump? That whole zone feels like wasted space. I drew up something like this for Bill, only I put a res on each leg and had a solid center for cable hiding. The bottom side panels are only mounted in one spot? That might give you trouble.
Thanks. There will be holes in legs so I can route WC tubes, it is part of final design that still needs adjustment. I planned to add bit of plexy in spike form between PSU and MBO and make another mounting point for bottom side panels. This is still a concept, but there is chance it may find it's way to the stores.
Here are updated parts of case. Central structure(with additional mounting structure for lower side panels and extra HDD/SSD or WC pump): Case feet (now with WC hose and cable routing holes): Redesinged PSU mounting: MBO tray:
If anyone is interested, you can check our project on Indiegogo: http://www.indiegogo.com/PCcompany?a=1192483 I placed it minutes ago.
Scorpio is going live. Prototipe made of laser cut plywood is almost finished. After everything is adjusted and tested, we will make unit out of plexi and I will start project log.
Realised in plywood, that case looks awesome. I'm going to sub to this and eagerly await updates Do you think the bottom fin will obstruct airflow to the middle fan much?
Thank you very much. I am honored. There is a lot of space between fan and bottom side panel so there will be no problems. And I can always mount longer stell bars and enlarge that space.
Overall, I like it. I've always been cautious of open air cases like this though due to all the dust, etc getting such easy access. Then again, I have 4 dogs and 2 cats, so I need to be more concerned than most. Looking forward to seeing how it shapes up in plexi! Good work man.
I am glad that you like it. I am modifying design a little bit to "close" the case a little bit. And I am also working on fitting standrard ATX board inside.
Here are the last pictures of prototype before official project log: It is off course unfinished, but I hope that prototype will be finished by the end of next week. Thene will come real thing made of plexi.
You know, making it out of that.. and another out of plexi.. .both would be very great and unique looking PCs! I'd save the prototype and make a 'brother pc' later on. Nice design man, glad to see it coming together.
Thank you. But prototype will be sold when I start to assemble the demo case. And I would probably sell the demo after project is complete. There will be a lot of them later if we come to market and get certificates for them.
I'm not a huge fan of the case feet. Because all the case panels are orientated in one direction and the feet are orientated at 90 degrees, I feel they don't quite tie in as well as they possibly could. They almost appear as more of an afterthought. Lowering the main bulk of the case might look better, so that the outside panels overlap the feet. Or have you considered similar style feet that Attila utilizes on his cases, that stretch out from the central core? I can't fault the rest, it looks great.
Thank you. But,please do not advise me to rip off somebody others work. I created this unique design inspirated with scorpion-case feet mimic the feet of scorpion and even the top panels an last pictures when rised up look as a tail of scorpion. It is not the desing that everyone will like, but if it is too good,it's wrong.
No worries. I wasn't suggesting you rip off Attila's work, just maybe take some inspiration from his work. I'm sure Attila would be the first to say that he's taken inspiration from plenty of sources in the past, as has everyone else who creates unique pieces of art here. There's nothing wrong with doing so either, as long as it isn't a blatant copy. As I said, I still love the design, and I understand where you are coming from with the feet taking inspiration from the legs of a scorpion. Just a little constructive criticism which you are free to ignore . Looking forward to see how the acrylic version turns out. The plywood prototype is looking very slick already, so I already know we're in for a treat.
