Hi there, Just been asked a interesting query - a friend is doing a car repairs and needs a portable computer to work outside running car diagnostic based programs. However he wants it to be durable enough to not be worried about rain, spills or taking a bit of a beating. He is asking me about the Itronix Gobook III although it took me a while to take that question seriously looking at it but I can imagine this thing will take quite a beating. Budget, is a tough one.. I can't see him paying over £400-500 honestly. The one above he is looking at for around £200 so I'm drifting towards that laptop or one of similar field as I can't see such a resistant laptop having good specs at that price. Any suggestions or any alternative shock resistant and some what water resistant sleeves/covers known for laptops? Just in case I am missing something.
The Dell Latitude XFR D630 comes to mind. Video here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjh_MD-BDnA ebay sales here... http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Laptops-Netbooks-/175672/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=Latitude+XFR+D630 I have a standard Dell Latitude D630 and by itself it's as hard as nails. I'd imagine the XFR can only be better, especially for waterproofing.
Dell XTR or Panasonic toughbook. I had a play with an old BT pentium toughbook once. It was a beast but it took one helluva beating.
yes for toughbook and I think Lenovo has a model too. http://www.lenovo.com/news/us/en/2009/02/rugged_computing.html
