Motherboards ASUS Maximus V Gene S-ATA problems

Hi!

I decided to upgrade my computer from S775 to some new stuff, but unfortunatly I'm running into major SATA problems.

The mainboard doesn't recognize some of the below disk & DVD drives connected to S-ATA (At UEFI/BIOS level). I've individually tried all four of the drives with the following results:



However, if I test the drives in pairs or three at a time, the results change, IE the 3TB drive wont work in SATA2 any longer.

I've tried using many different SATA-cables.
The DVD-Drive also gives a lot of errors in the event viewer and I can hardly access the drive at all in windows.

Hardware used:
Samsung SSD 830 Series 256GB 2.5" OEM
Optiarc DVD-RW SATA1 (from around 2007)
Western Digital Caviar Green WD30EZRX 3TB 5400rpm 64MB 3.5" SATA-3
0.5TB Samsung T166S HD501LJ

ASUS Maximus V Gene
Core i5-3570K
Corsair 2x4GB DDR1333 LP
OCZ ModXtream 500W
MSI GTX 660 OC


Any help would be appreciated, but I believe I have to RMA the board, unless the CPU could be responsible for this kind of behaviour (some parts of the controller is now integrated into the core, right?) ?

The 500GB disk drive and the DVD-RW are straight from the old system, in which they have been working fine, so I don't believe the error is in the disks as the results are depending on which SATA-port they're connected to.

But yes, technically I have S775 mainboards available to test the drives on, but no S1155 board for the Core i5.

 

At least two of those ports sound buggered if nothing works

 

There's no marvel ports on that motherboard

it's an ASMedia

edit ASMedia chipset needs drivers to work

put ssd and cdrom on the intel sata 2 ports. install windows then move ssd to intel sata 3 port

 

According to the manual, 2 SATA6G ports are Marvell, but that may be a typo...

Anyways, the drivers are installed, but that won't help as the problem is present during boot as well.

 

Doesn't sound like a motherboard chip issue p, otherwise you would expect ports 1&2 or 3&4 to be faulty, not 1&3.
How have you got the ports configured in the BIOS? AHCI, IDE, RAID?

 

I've tried both AHCI and IDE.

It's returned for a RMA now, I hope they find a problem...

 

I got the board back from RMA, now it works much better, so the first one was broken.

However the 3TB Western DIgital Green drive would still not be recognized when connected to the Asmedia SATA3 ports, so there seems to be some compatibility problems there. 3TB drive works fine on Z77 ports.

 

Isn't there a bios setting for drives over 2tb I will have a look in my bios layer when I get 5 minites

 

Please try updating the BIOS to the latest version and then clearing the CMOS.
