Hi all, I recently got the Asus P8Z77-M PRO motherboard and after putting together the system (see my setup here) However when I pressed the power button - nothing happens. Not even a single beep. I do have the standby green light on the motherboard so I know it's getting the power. I've re-read the motherboard manual and can confirm all cables are plugged in correctly. The PSU works OK on my other PC so I know it's not that. I have unplugged all other bits - no change. So what am I missing?
My next port of call then, as you've ruled out the usual suspects, would be to check for bent pins in the cpu socket.
I removed everything including memory & CPU, leaving just the power connected to the mobo - it doesn't even power on. PSU fan didn't spin at all. Full 24 pins plugged in and also the 4 pins plugged in too. Is the PSU I listed powerful enough?
Try just the cpu, the cooler and just one stick of ram. Also take the lot out of the case to rule out any shorting; but make sure the surface you put the board down on is non-conductive.
Just done that - still nothing. :/ The mobo manual states that I can either use 4 pins or 8 pins EATX12V. I plugged in the 4 pins. Do I need a PSU with 8 pins, even that the manual states that I could use 4 pins?
This is interesting - this happened to someone else and it seems to be a faulty hardware? In other words, I may have an DOA motherboard. :/ http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/354020-13-power-clear-cmos-help
I have had weird things happen on asus b75m le boards when usb mass storage devices are plugged in. Exactly the same as what you describe. Power to board but nothing else. Remove the usb key power cycle and all is well again. Do you have any diag lights on the board to point at where it fails that may shed some light on the problem
Have you tried the dimm in a different slot? Are there diag lights on the board? One of my amd asus boards had diag leds for cpu, ram, graphics and something else to help point in the right direction
There are only two - one is the power, which lights up green, but no boot. The PSU fan doesn't even spin at all. I have tested the PSU on another machine and it works so it's not the PSU. The other one is the memory - if there are something wrong, it will flash. This did not. I have put one stick of memory on all 4 slots, no difference. It's starting to look like I have an DOA motherboard. Anymore else I could check before I raise an RMA with Scan... ?
Bumping that up... just saw that I have 2 x 4 pins. Do I use both? Or would that be a bad idea? I would suspect it only accept 1 x 4 pins as per to the manual OR one full block of 8 pins without using both of these 2 x 4 pins? Does anyone know?
