I was told (by my mum) that its worth spending a bit extra on something in a room that really adds something, so that is sort of a center piece of the kitchen, and it does sort of tie the room together.

Various spicy Indonesian, Chinese and Thai dishes to prepare at home.
Sambal Oelek (a.k.a. more spicy stuff)

    Some tea (Pu-er and Rooibos)

    And this:

whilst it is lovely and I never would have guessed that it was a cooker hood it is far more than I would be willing to spend.

It depends on the viewpoint. How many of these things will you buy in your life for your house ? Not much i guess. Then why not spend a bit more for something which looks awesome ?

JaccoW what do you plan on doing with the light?

I do find the concept interesting.

Oh sorry MrMonkey I meant JaccoW's crazy philips light.

I have some Halogen racks in that room now, but I also have these:

And they look awesome, and have a nice inner shade that prevents the light from hurting your eyes when you're under them. Pretty much everyone compliments them.

I know what you mean about the price. But once you've gone for solid worktops and a neff oven, its not really that significant.

It came down to "what makes the room pop" in the end.

But that kitchen is the reason that we've had to delay the floor so long.

I'd rather spend it on a new computer to tie the room together, lol.

The wife would have other ideas though.
