I love watching the funny videos on Youtube to entertain myself, especially when I'm blue. I want to download them to my iPhone on my mac computer (32bit), in case the network is slow or offline. Do u have some advice, thanks!
There are numerous perfectly serviceable websites that let you enter the url and download the video (some are mentioned above). However, they almost invariably use Java and there are, imo, better ways. Better is a bookmarklet. Keepvid.com has one (top right) and there are numerous others about. Just drag it into your bookmarks toolbar or menu and then when you are on a Youtube page click the bookmark to download the video. This generally bypasses the need to run Java is quicker than copying and pasting the url. Best, Is if you run Greasemonkey in Firefox (or the equivalent in Chrome) install this script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/62634 You get a beautifully integrated drop down menu on the video page with direct links to download the video in any format available, sorted by quality and file type. Hurrah! Also, if you are interested in transcoding youtube videos to a specific format http://www.clipconverter.cc/ does this online. I haven't used it much, but it seemed to work when I did. It also doesn't use Java (can you tell that is a bit of a bugbear for me? )
Maybe it is useful. But it needs Windows operating system. Mine is Mac computer. On the other hand, I found macx youtube downloader on www.cnet.com, it ranks in top three. It's lucky it really works well.
Here's the way I do it: 1) Download Youtube videos as MP4 2) Either extract the audio if a music video or straight copy to MP4 Code: ffmpeg.exe -i myfile.flv -vcodec copy -acodec copy myfile.mp4
I just use ant downloader under firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player/
Why not just use (Video)DownloadHelper? It's a simple firefox addon that gives you a dropdown menu to choose from different video quality settings (from 1080p mp4 to mobile 3gp). It can convert video formats (no experience with that though) and is fully compatible with download managers/accelerators like DownThemAll. It also works for hundreds of other video sites apart from youtube too. What's there not to like?
Just to be nice and thorough: BYTubeD https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/bytubed/ is an excellent firefox extension for bulk downloading youtube videos. Ideal if you want to download a whole series or playlist for offline viewing. It really is very good, especially combined with a bulk downloader like DownThemAll! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downthemall/
Not sure if it can still do it, but Realplayer Basic is what I used but don't really use it anymore as I don't really find any videos that I want to download.
PwnYouTube.com You can either type 'PWN' infront of the youtube address eg: pwnyoutube.com/blahblahblah Or Replace youtube.com with deturl.com Or goto http://pwnyoutube.com and download the bookmarklet (add it to your bookmarks bar and click when watching the video you want to download, it gives you loads of different options of quality for the video) Its Free too
guys, thanks for your solutions. After trying your apps, I think macx youtube downloader is more better.
