Erm, in my eyes, I still have the same PC as I had when I first built it when I was at university back in 1992.

I have updated a few parts admittedly, like triggers broom, you want me to add all that up ?

My main computer now is my gaming laptop, need something mobile because im at sea for half the year, so I spent about £1800. My last desktop I bought about 8 years ago, P4e system which cost about 700 in parts at the time, then another 500 or so in upgrades over the years, swapped the original 9800xt for a 6800gt and then a 3850, extra 2 gigs of ram, new hdd, stuff like that.

Original Spec when I built it back in October '08:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ - £41.94
Asus Crosshair II Formula - £182.11
    2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer - £42.72
    XFX GTX 260 XXX - £187.13
    Enermax Infiniti 650W PSU - £105.15
    500GB Samsung F1 - £43.35
    Antec 900 Case - Free
Scythe Mugen (Infinity) CPU Cooler - £31.60
    Pioneer DVD-RW - £17.08
    Sony Floppy Drive - £4.71
    4x 120mm Cooler Master Fans - £23.36
2x Akasa SATA Cables (with EL wire) - £23.47 - A total waste, they didn't even fit the motherboard...
Akasa Floppy Drive Cable - £3.51

    Total: £706.13

    Upgrades:

    AMD Athlon X2 > AMD Phenom II X4 955 - £97.86
    2GB Crucial Ballistix > 4GB Corsair XMS2 1066MHz > 8GB Crucial XMS2 800MHz - Free
    XFX GTX 260 > XFX GTX 285 > Asus GTX 470 - Free
    Corsair Force 3 120GB - Free
    Added 500GB F3 - £36.44
Cooler Master Fans > Cooler Master Sickleflows > Bit-Fenix Spectres - Free
    Antec 900 > CM Storm Trooper - £99.38
Scythe Mugen (Infinity) > Cooler Master V10 - £20 - Absolutely horrid cooler the V10
Cooler Master V10 > Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced - £25
    Asus GTX 470 > EVGA GTX 570 - £60

    Total + upgrades: £1044.81

Adding in the various peripherals, screens and desks over the years, I'd estimate around £1500. Considering my PC at the moment is probably worth more in sentimental value than anything else, it's quite a lot....

This post was brought to you by illness and boredom.

I figure I've spent about as much on my computer as Theseus spent on his ship. :)

Look, gentlemen, we all know I've spent a few pennies on PC parts, but trying to put a price tag on stuff? That's impossible!

(Mostly because just my case was $600 USD. Let's ignore the goodies inside it.)

It's easily done. My last system; TJ07 + custom powder coating / spray painting throughout and roof mod approx £600 ($900)

As for my new system, I would say over £2k (far, far more if I count up all the bits I broke / changed during the build)

£400 on a case is a piece of cake to rack up if you're modding. I've had 3 cases now that cost north of that. By the time my newest one (FT02) is finished, it'll be about £500.

My case was an Alienware Area-51 with all of the lighting, motors, system and 1100W power supply. Wasn't a bad deal.

I was just trying to find all the receipts for the bits I bought for my HFX case. Turns out my HTPC case, including the passive cooling bits and the VFD display, was nearer £600.

    Oh. Whoops!
