    Hello boys,
I present to you the project "frattura", this project was born from a cabinet intended for the landfill that will try to give new life
The cabinet that i'll use is a Cooler Master elite 335, in its interior I install my old hardware: Asus M2A32 deluxe, AMD Phenom x4 9850, 2x Powercolor ATI HD 3870 crossfire and 6 Gb DDR2 Kingston HyperX 800 Mhz, certainly my hardware is not of last generation but my budget is very limited due to my large family ;)

But let's go back to the project, here is the cabinet in question

Began work with draw on a cardboard the cuts of the side panel

    Removed the front

    Removed the excess material

I made a shape from cardboard to take measures for the implementation of the new front

This is the plexiglass i'll be using to provide the mod

I started to prepare the smoked plexiglass for the front-piece

    total test of front

Sorry for my bad english but i'm doing the best I can to write ;)

I continue with the work on the front, I create a template to place the buttons and the logo cooler master

And now began to working behind the front and I try to reuse some components of the old cabinet

Use this piece of plexi for support for buttons

I drilled the front and the overlay

I have created these circles of plexi to realize the buttons

    buttons off

    buttons on

    ;)

Other small jobs involve the insertion of the cd-writer slim in the front

    test

    Nicely bent!
Just heated it up with the heatgun and let it all just "fall" in place?

I cut the curves in plexi in 4 pieces that will form the two side walls

Then i have stuccoed the two side panels

    Preparation cut side panel

    Cut panel

Preparation cut the front of the panel

    cut panel

    Placement test

And finally entry test curve in the bulkhead

As you note from the last photo there is a bit of light between the plexi and the panel, but the finishing touches will bring them a little before the mounting of the curves

Continuation of the cut right side panel

And test orange inserts on the panel

Soon for the new up ;)

I started to work on the structure of the case

I use a sheet of plexi from 1 cm to make the base of the case

I rounded the corners, the plexi to the end of the job will be polished

I created the four holes for anchoring

    test

And now I start with the heavy work

The structure of the houses cut in two

    Other sparks

    Here is the result

    ;)

    Still sparks

    result

    result

    I cut the shroud

    Test psu mounting

This plexi I repeat that the fan shroud and anchoring psu

Test fitting to finish to take some measures

Draft designed to make the idea of the finished piece

Surely you know these amazing powerful magnets in "neodymium" measure only 5x2 mm, will serve to stop the panels to the structure of the houses

I have started to cut the plexi to do the cover to the power supply these are the side parts

    Resting on the media

    Upper part of the coating

    And the bottom and front

During the jobs I realized that he had taken a couple of incorrect measurements and i had to remake a wall of the cover, from the photos you see in transparent plexi whereas before he was black

I pasted the various pieces and this is the top of the cover

    frontal

And rear panel fan/power supply, will be completed after the painting

    Mounting on structure

And to finish a view to the rear of the case

    bye ;)

I trimmed the corners of the cover psu

    and test fitting

Use an aluminum rod to reinforce the front block of houses

    And installed

You remembered the blow that had the houses? Ok you refresh the memory with this picture, the line is where i made the cut to divide the case and as you note remains a depression of the sheet

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

With a couple of hammered are managed to flatten it but the metal sheet is thinned and the excess material has endorsed the sheet in the center

But in order to overcome the problem i have thought to apply an aluminum bar and paste it with the liquid steel to make it straight

And the result is excellent (the latest for the finishes)

After this, i have solved the problem that was troubling me for a long time i am past to raise the basket hd with two bars of plexi from 1 cm

I have done all this work on the basket because i wouldn't have had space between the hd and the curve that will be part of the side panel

Now i glistened on the next step of work that will be made on the side panels, today i did a test of gluing a t between plexi and sheet metal of the case, for the result of seal appearance tomorrow, I have more cut a couple of dozens of angles that will support for sealing the plexi after headlight of the recesses on the plexi for the hardware components

See you tomorrow for the next step ;)

Very cool idea! But a bit curious, where will the MoBo be if the mid-section is closed on both sides?

    thanks ;)

Expect a little that I shall arrive soon to the solution of your question ;) stay tuned

I have had to make a small reconstruction of a part of the panel here in this photo you can see in the circle a small mistake of cutting

Here the reconstruction of the missing part with the liquid steel

And now the piece of plexi flush to perfection

Here, instead, I pasted the angular to the panel

And gluing of the curves in plexi to the panel

In the meantime I pasted the rest of the corner pieces to the front panel

And at the end i gave the first coat of "heavy" sanding to the panel, in the next few days, we pitch the planer to tape to remove the last few millimetres thick

I glued all the panels and i sanded the plexi to bring it up to level of the panel

Here you can see a small detail of an error on the right-hand panel , i will try to fix it along the way is a sin i was very careful to try and make them mate but i'll settle this too

While the rear part of the panel on the right, and very close to the opposite panel

Completely closed the panel on the left with the application of the plexi under the cover of the psu
