I was born in St. Helens, Lancashire and was brought up knowing that there ain't no pie but a pimmies pie. Sadly Pimbletts Pies went into administration in 2008 and THE meat and potato pie was lost forever But in the greatest comeback since Lazarus, Pimmies Pies are back! If you're a pie lover it's well worth a trip to pick up a few dozen. The meat and potato pies are just heaven!
Don't like Pies, I enjoy the filling but I'm not a fan of the pastry in general, I have a weird thing where I like it to a certain texture which I've only come across a few times.
I hadn't even tasted at meat & potato pie until I moved to Cumbria from Scotland last year. They are not bad, but I still prefer the good old scotch pie, or even better - a bridie!
God the pastry is probably my favourite bit! pastry is like bacon, it just makes things taste better Scotch pies are pretty nice, but what's a bridie? Pimmies steak and gravy pie is way better than a pukka. pukka aren't that nice, they just had a good bussines plan to get into the chippies.
Any of you pie fans that live in London may I suggest a visit to The Windmill pub in Mayfair, they have a fantastic selection of award winning pies and ales
I like to make pies too. Chicken, bacon and leak with a white sauce in shortcrust pastry is good. A good one is just mixing up some random stuff and put in a parcel of just roll puff pastry. 40 mins in the oven and you got pie!
I like the fillings, but I despise puff pastry of pretty much any form. It gives me instant heartburn for some reason.
Pie's can be health! If your eat the crap like pukka muck then sure you'll pile on the pounds. One of my favourites is Turkey, leek and bacon which is strangely magic but only works with left over turkey, so its a post Christmas joy! Left over Stew in a pie is also epic! oh and the choices of pastries!
It's a bit of an odd combination but Venison and double chocolate stout pies are absolutely delicious.
