I thought this was a question like the way The Rock used to ask it:- "Do you like Pie!" o.0 <-- People's Eyebrow
Potato top pie Cheesecake. Mmmmm potato top pie. Now I'm hungry. Also regarding that NZ gourmet pies place, why is it called NZ pies if theres no Kiwi's involved. Son I am disappoint.
That was intensional, as the rock is pure ledge. Can't wait for fast6 and Pain and Gain to come out. Back to the pies, upon further research pimbletts (from the original post) will deliver part baked pies for you to freeze. Then you can plop a couple in the oven for hot pie goodness whever the mood takes you. I'm going to get so sooo fat.
Not an odd combination at all - venison and chocolate and stout is a well known flavour combo in haut-cuisine. Pies really don't do it for me though, nothing elegant or delicate about them, without using very, very good quality ingredients which sort of defies the point of them in the end.
Horray for Pimmies! And yes, the venison pie is bloody delicious. Especially considering venison goes best with a sweet sauce such as blueberry, I can picture venison and chocolate being very nice. I'll have to give that a try!
I like pies. I can't remember the people who made the nicest one I had, but it was at Borough Market, chicken and leek, me thinks. And I don't even like leeks.
Home made definitely the way forward, and anyone who salivates at the idea of a Pukka pie was clearly dropped on their head as a child. Ruddy awful by comparison. I'm a particular fan of making loaf tin sized meat pies with hot water crust pastry. Can be done with eggs for a gala pie, or with layers of black pudding, which is damned fine. I'd definitely recommend the Bree Louise near Euston Station. Epic pie selection, including a haggis pie which was a thing of absolute beauty.
Quite agree on the make your own. But not steak. For me it's got to be chicken with boiled gammon, leeks, shallots, celery leaves, mushrooms, parsley, white wine and double cream topped with puff pastry - the underneath of the pastry soaks up the sauce but the top layers are lightly crisp. Yummy
Pie = Steak and Kidney, Chicken at a push, 'game' *if* you can get a decent variety... Non-Meat Pie/Dessert Pie = Mississippi Mud Pie Anyone who recommends Pukka or Greggs pies need a taste-bud transplant as they clearly don't have any or they don't work... I do however hold a special hatred and disgust for the following: Apple Pie 'Egg, Cheese and Tatty' pie *shudder* Quiche/Flan of all kinds Apple Pie Scotch Pies Mince Pies Apple Pie
GET OUT NOW!!!!!!! haha only joking, I used to hate them but I was shown the light by the CustomPC Mince Pie benchtests every Christmas. They always find an absolute beauty!!
I LOVE PIE. so much. I make alot of pies - currently I like to make pies with a shortcrust base, and a puff pastry top. Tomorrow I plan to make a great beef pie. I am going to cook some stewing cuts, in my slow cooker all day while I am at work, exact recipe is currently unknown, but I then intend to put it within a pie and cook it for my tea tomorrow night, I think it will be nice.
The only pies I don't like are quiche. Bleurgh. Our local butcher does awesome fresh-made pies by the comely lass behind the counter, lamb and mint is my current favourite. But a good mixed-game pie is where it's at, especially if you combine it with a stout for extra richness.
Australia is a good place for pie. Yatala Pies near Brisbane do every type of pie very well. Also Harry's Cafe De Wheels is amazing. Meat pies with a mound of mash and mushy peas on top.
Home made plate mince pie or a slow cooked 10 to 1 pie. Yum Bought pies, that would have to be from Alan Jones butchers in preston, double Yum
