    Hi.
I'm after a new inkjet printer/scanner/copier to replace the Epson SW435 which I've happily given to someone else due to it's extortionate ink usage. I'm happy to pay anything up to about £150 (less if I can get away with it) for reasonable quality photo prints, but the most important selling point must be the ink usage. I don't care if the cartridges are seperate affairs or all in one's; just as long as they give me more prints per cartridge than I was getting from the Epson, which was something like 10-15 before it told me a cartridge needed changing!
Printer choice is a minefield these days :sigh: and user experience would be a boon when choosing one. Your recommendations please.
NB: Third party cartridges and Wi-Fi capable would be preferred but not essential.
    Cheers.

Would a colour laser cut it?

Id defo try a laser for everything that isn't image based. Sooooooo much more reliable than pesky inkjets and there thirst for super pricey inks!

I'd second a laser if it would fit your needs, failing that, I've eard that Canon has a very good price per page rating. Don't take that as advice though as I can't remember where I heard it...

Probably best to look at reviews from the likes of Trusted Reviews who used to be a sister site of BT and are skewed more towards the photography and home entertainment side of tech, unless someone here has good knowledge and experience of lot's of printers.

We sell loads of these. Way more ink in the cartridges than Epson (3x more) and no chips to go wrong. We've only ever had one back out of hundreds as well. Oh and inks are ~£5 a set for compatibles.

    Dell

I would very highly recommend a lower power colour laser,

I have had a Dell 1250c Printer for almost three years now, I had period of around 3 months where i was printing maybe 100 full colour sheets every weekend and the sample toners handled that,

I then purchased some replacement toners on ebay and they have worked a treat no chip or quality issues at all.

The printer itself is very compact and stylish and warms up in seconds , then has a high feed rate.

    Printer: approx £40-60
I waited for a good deal but they are around used if this is an aoption

    Toners: Approx £29.99

Not ideal for convenience, but I'd say a cheap B+W laser for general printing, then get yourself some online prints done when you need full colour.

    + 1 for this.

I was to my shame in PcWorld/Currys yesterday, purely I might add to look at TV's to get an idea of picture quality. On my way out I noticed a couple of Samsung monochrome laser printers ML2162 and ML2165W and was struck by their small size. I have a Samsung SCX-4623FN which is also monochrome but has a fax and scanner and copier and it is massive. So might well get rid of what has been a good printer for something a little smaller.

Thanks for the input so far, guys. I'm going to have to rule out a laser printer though; my wife will be using it the most for photo prints so it's got to be an inkjet. The Canon PIXMA and Brother DCP already suggested look to be good choices, but a few more would help in making the right one.
    Please keep 'em coming.
    Cheers.
