i thought it has to be slow and steady will drilling ? as it will crack the CPU ? isn't it ? anyway , and pics for show .. just wanna have a look .. Thanks
CPU keyring Take 2 old CPUs (2 durons is good ) 1 - Find a ring fo the keyring 2- Eipoxy them together with ring in the middle add to chain Thats the one have a go
Re: CPU keyring When I've done them I've only had one processor (not very often I kill 2 in the same week), so drilling was the only option and sitting there snapping the pins off so they don't get caught on things. Don't have any pics because I have sold/given them away.
if its a totally ceramic chip go get a ceramic bit and use that on it. I've made them from p4s and a brad point works well for them.
high powered rifle and a rifle range? All modern CPUs use an organic substrate to mount the very small, couple centemeter die to. Organic substrate, read, PLASTIC! But most of what I can think of up through the early P3 days used a ceramic substrate. These will need somthing that can cut ceramic, but it isn't hard to find them. The type of stuff used to work with like like the kind in your bathroom will work on ceramic as bathroom tile is also ceramic. Not many removable chips used epoxy encapsulation because they can't carry pins all that well. Chips with fewer pins can be in sockets and those that use what are called J leads make good keychains as well. They don't have CPU flashyness, but seeing 80 pins or so that are curled under the chip like some sort of dead bug are cool
be careful, the pins on some ICs are excruciatingly sharp. My dad had a connector with incredibly small pins fall into his leg and cut him badly
I cut off all the pins (they rip your pockets and scratch your "valuables" otherwise - ouch ), then I twisted a loop of wire and soldered it to the pin stumps. Here it is in use -
Oops - forgot to mention, the wire on the Mk1 snapped after a while. It really needs a short length of chain or at least another small loop to let it twist more easily. Maybe stronger wire would have helped. The solder never broke though.
I'm planning on doing one with a clear resin case. That way I can keep the pins on it (which IMO looks cool)
hmmm , i've just got an .... those long type of keychains ... i'll try using Epoxy to stick it with the pins .. and let it dry ... hope it works .. post the results later ..
update : DONE ! used those epoxy glue and stick the keychain with the CPU pins .. and it's rock hard now ... will try to take some pics and show it to you guys .. no drilling needed
