Heh, I didn't join as far back as the oldest purple layout, but I remember when BiT had that huge grey/blue layout. Heh.

Oooh the memories! I look back on my first posts... I was such a n00b back then! Now I'm a seasoned net-dude-thing!

EDIT: 6 years here and I still can't remember the sodding smiley codes :grr:

ha ha, was browsing some old threads, looking to see what Koolvin was up to these days.

Anyone know if his old mods are posted anywhere? Can only see the Orac mod from days of old, guess that's still there as it was a reader submitted one.

    The old Vapo-Li was awesome!

    I didn't know bit-tech started out as bit-technologies!

Epic thread revival by the way. I wonder if cheesecake was around back in those days? Or did that come about when Relix became overlord of bit?

On a more somber note, I just came across this post:

Rich said that in 2004. I didn't think things were that bad in 2004 (the year I got into PCs and modding) but look at how much that has become the case nowadays.

Yea I remember it almost from the start, used to run my own site back in the day (JSI Hardware), Think Hexus, Bit-Tech and me started around the same time, very late 90's / 2000.

Mind = blown. I had no idea RTT were his initials! I just accepted him as "RTT" and never questioned it! :hehe: There are plenty of other usernames which I question the logic or meaning of every time I see them though. Like SuicideNeil, Rotcrack and Jizwizard What's that all about?! :worried:

There are so many others, I just picked the first three that came into my head :)

IIRC there is a thread out there where we did the whole 'explain your screen name' thingy.

There was Razer Tech as well, but that's long looong gone. Now I'm looking up all the old sites like GibTech and PC-Arena :O

Unicorn - It was on the back of mods like Orac and Macromans that blew everyone's minds.

Yeah I know what you mean, but look at how much the bar has been raised even since then... L3P Desk/Cross by Peter Brands & co, several incredible Murderbox TJ07's by Charles Harwood and silly amounts of pornographic custom CNC work like you see from Parvum systems, E22 and Epic PC to name but a few.

    does anyone remember pcpowerzone.co.uk?

I did their news posting for a short while 'til the guy who owned it had to shut down because of other priorities. I believe at the time he left all the material from that site to bit with the impression it would be archived somewhere, but it never came to pass. That would've been mid 2002 by my reckoning.

i remember the old layout, started browsing the site during lunch breaks in the dingy basement workshop i used to build PCs in. At the time i was running a Celeron 500, Voodoo 3 2000, 64MB of ram and win98se, 4x CD-RW, built all of it to play x beyond the frontier and homeworld, while using my folks p2-300 to play UT and red alert over dialup because that's where the phoneline and modem were.

    good times.

Bindibadgi there is a blast from the past! /waves

Yea for me Hardware / modding / overclocking was a lot more fun back then, now with the shift to integrated / non upgradeable / non user replaceable kit it seems to be a dieing art :(
