Many thanks all! First shot just upped the contrast, and upped the exposure because it was underexposed for the sky. Shot no 3 hardly had any PP to it, I just zoomed out my 70-300mm when I saw they fly towards the sun.
Been sorting through a few old photo's, so thought I'd share a few of the better ones. I obviously have a thing for shooting in portrait looking at these. Also sorry for the loong post. Lincoln Cathedral (2012 and 2010): France (2011): Cwm Rheidol (2010). One of the best summers day I can remember: Snowdon (2010). As shot, no processing: Tate Modern (2010): Rome (2010): Random shot (2012): View from my dad's farm (2010). Lots of photo's stitched together. I gave this to my sister as a Christmas pressie made up of 4 frames: And last but certainly not least, my new baby son, Rowan. Taken on the 22nd of July, the day he was born:
Coming home from work saw a little car meet brewing... stopped for 5 mins for few photos. See more on my FB page: www.facebook.com/PhotographyByNeo
Absolutely love the panorama in different frames Dullonien, did you have the final shape in mind when you shot it or was it just happy coincidence?
You, my man, are on a very slippery slope! . Next step is an SLR the size of a house brick or a Rollie that costs a months rent Really like the old street light.
Thanks a lot. More of a happy coincidence really. A hefty amount of manipulation went in to creating the final picture, e.g. the fence running along the left edge is a flipped picture with a track deleted, and merged into the rest. I also added the birds in the far right. It look a while to get it all looking seamless. Edit. I've just noticed an area at the end of the fence that looks horrible, not sure how that slipped me by, so not quite seamless. Part of me thinks that the blue tone of the snow looks a little off, but I've tried playing with the colour balance and it doesn't look right any other way either. Cheers.
What's going on with the lighting in this shot? That's not a criticism - it looks awesome - but I literally don't understand what optical effect is making those shaded diagonal areas, or how you'd recreate it. It's great. From a few days ago: (click for full-size) I know I should PP more but I just have no patience for it or understanding of how to do it properly. Photography's a horrible subject for noobs because it has no half-measures or amateur hour: when I go online and try to find guides and advice on PP (or anything else for that matter) it's always very complex, very professional and very expensive. Get photoshop, learn 20 techniques, devote hours. I love photography but I haven't got that kind of energy to put into it at the moment - so for now I just jpeg mode and let the camera do it for me
Try Lightroom, it's very (beginner) user friendly and very powerful. The only thing I use Photoshop for is stitching panoramas.
In all honesty I don't really know. There's three photo's, all taken at the same time, and all pointing in a similar direction which have a similar orange/yellow hue. This is the only one with the diagonal lines though. I remember that it was a really sunny day and the sun rays would have been coming from the left, so I suppose it's just that. Or something temporarily went wrong with the camera. It was shot at ISO-250, 38mm, f/20, 1/50 sec. The white balance was on Auto. All in all, a purely lucky photo. I also really like the effect.

Thanks, it was fun visiting a real city, or at least somewhere where people don't drive to work on tractors. Fun fact; when I was at school, a friend and I did a weeks work experience mostly cleaning and waxing Sea Kings. IMGP6056 by silverfish51, on Flickr IMGP6090 by silverfish51, on Flickr
Just having a little play with the 7D & the cheapy 55-250 f/4-5.6 lens: 100% crop: I put the camera on my Gorillapod, but the weight proved too much and its legs just splayed out, so I had to prop the front leg up with my hand & try to steady it as well as release the shutter; shot isn't as sharp as I'd like but until a I get a proper tripod & desk tripod it'll do. Still very impressed- near zero colour fringing, not bad at all...
A guy I know is quitting his job... selling everything he owns.... recently purchased a cheapo motorcycle and is moving from New York to the West Coast. I had to join him. While I could've managed to do it on my little 250cc scoot, I wanted to enjoy it so today checked out a bigger used scooter. Will be crossing United States on two wheels
Sounds awesome. Good luck and have fun! Here's an unusual shot - compressor wash during shutdown on a Ka-31 AEW helicopter: (clicky biggy)
