A little more rough than I'd have put it, but have to agree that it seems overplayed. Rockstar have a narrative in place created with set characters, that was their design choice and fair play to them if they didn't want players changing fundamental aspects of their characters such as gender, or name.

I have to question whether the "token" female characters in other games are any better. When they exist seemingly only to show off the diversity of characters it can feel hollow and pointless. Take Sheva in Resident Evil 5, who is more or less a walking stereotype. Or both Left 4 Dead games where one female character is present out of four. It's okay girls, there's a character for you! We'll ignore that by real world population there should be two female characters, or that you might want a choice amongst your gender like male gamers get. Had Rockstar shoe-horned in a female character simply to appease critics I can easily see it having been far more insulting than simply sticking to an all male cast and relying on their [hopefully] detailed and personal narrative to explain the lack of choice.

Cant say I agree with reviewer on this - opinion seems harsh given the joy this game has given me for £38....
The way rockstar push movie budget art through 8 yr old console tech has impressed me since I bought this.

It's an opinion piece - nobody is obliged to agree with it!

Read lots of opinions and formulate your own opinions.

I liked the review. I know what to expect if I get it and I'll form my own opinions when I do. So torn as to whether to wait for the PC release though.

If they ever do release it on PC of course...

    lol @ the equality 'debate'
In real life - violent crime is executed by men.
A 'hard ass' chick with guns would be like Barb Wire the movie
Either way - this game ain't supposed to have any sort of moral standing in way. Just fun. Shame about exclusivity but i guess that's how to bleed current consoles before they die.

Actually thought this was a very good review for Bittech, this guy is way better than Joe Martin was, whose pretension wrote cheques his writing couldn't cash.

Its going to be a year from console release as always with GTA games before Rockstar remembers PCs exist...

To be fair, that is in itself a direct quote from (IIRC) Blue Velvet. If they're making cultural references like that (and no doubt Joe Pesci's character Nicky Santoro from Casino gets a few look-ins too) then I'm ok with it.

Yep and you also invest in the companies you've damaged through doing heists while their price is really low. Can make a serious killing in the game stock market.

For quick cash you could always rob security vans or hold up stores :)

Totally disagree with this review. The game was fun from beginning to end.

First bittech review ive not agreed with for a while.
Maybe its my futile mind or that im not extremely sensitive to every aspect of modern life but this is one of the best games ive ever played, as others have said - it was a great experience right the way through.

I respect other opinions though, im just grateful games like this exist for adults to choose to play and im hoping even more that nothing is changed with the franchise in years to come from some of the kickback.
Speaking of kickback, I saw an article from a UK newspaper I think wheresome goons were targetting schools and churchs for projectors and they immediately though it was the crims who just wanted them to play gta on at home....Not because of any other reason obviously!

This. I hope Rockstar never caves to the demands that there be female characters solely to appease the whiners. If it fits the story they want to tell, by all means, I hope they do it. If it's only because of the hue and cry that they're misogynistic, I call ********. They develop the game, they get to write the story they damn well please.

Don't forget, too, aside from Catalina, SA also had Kendl, Carl & Sweet's sister, who was trying to pull all of them (along with Cesar) up out of the ghetto, and was the perfect counterpoint to Sweet's ignorant-banger mentality.

As to V, though, nice to see not everyone is giving it the "ZOMG BEST GAME EVAR" that IV got - I played through IV once, and uninstalled it. I can't count the times I've played through VC and SA, but IV was just frustrating. The story was great, but the driving was godawful - I got somewhat used to it, in that I wasn't crashing every five seconds, but it wasn't fun to drive around. I still twitch a little when I think of Roman calling every 10 minutes, asking if I want to go bowling. I'll admit, though, the bowling mini-game was actually pretty kick-ass.

All that said, when they release the PC port (which they should be all over, since they made their money back 4- or 5-fold in 3 days), I'll pick it up cheap-ish in a Steam Sale. I might not wait until it's $5, but I never pay full retail for games anymore.

So, a few years down the line and I've finally picked up GTA V. I got it in the sale steam had for the 4th July, which got extended to the UK. It cost £12.98 which is the cheapest I've seen it in sales across Steam, Humble Bundle and others, where it's never been less than £20. Unfortunately with it being around an 80GB download I couldn't get around to playing last night, but will be indulging over the weekend. :)

Had lots of fun on GTA Online, not been on for a couple of years though.

Retired to my yacht with my millions.
