So I have a pair of maxtor 150Gb discs which seem to be playing up. They hold data ok, but randomly when accessing them they go to 100% active but data transfer is 0%.
This then locks up explorer and the only way to get back to normal is to reboot.

I've scanned them with hard drive pro and they seem ok..

What can I do with them? Are they fixable? Should I just cut my losses and get something newer and bigger?
These are about 9 years old now!

You say pair, are they running in a raid set? Is the rest of the hw as old as the HDD? Personally I would be inclined to replace asap.

No they weren't set up in a raid, but they have followed me over 3-4 different motherboards.

Health tab with smart data, green is good. Run an error scan too
