Why wasn't something like VNC or remote desktop not an option. Seems like it would be easier than messing with a screen?

The server was (is) crashing at boot so I needed to be able to see bios which you can't do through a VNC / remote desktop. I was using remote desktop until this started happening at which point I needed a solution that would let me see bios.

Well that makes sense. Although buying a monitor seems like a very permanent solution to what should be a temporary problem.

Yeah it probably is, but now I've realised that little issues keep happening and it's easier to forward plan and say something else might come up and i can just look at the monitor rather than having to take my gaming rig apart and drag monitors or the nas around to each other. Plus the little monitor is really rather cool which is obviously the most important thing lol.
