I think the Avenger looks awesome. The two-up cockpit looks great (although I did think you didn't get much of a view when looking at the controls), and I can assume the Cutlass will look similar. I still think it is a shorter range interceptor though - something best used on local system work. It certainly didn't appear to have jump drives.

Really looking forward to sitting in a Cutlass, Gladiator and Retaliator now.

Doesn't mean they can't be installed later. Bear in mind CIG themselves have said that the Avenger is popular with bounty hunters, so this thing is designed with long haul in mind. CIG have stated that so far, the only craft that can't either begin with a jump drive or have one installed later is the P-52 Merlin that launches from the Constellation.

That's subject to change, of course, but as it stands, the Avenger is capable of long haul thanks to the ability to have a jump drive, plus carry drop tanks under the wings.

Ugh, Hornets delayed until Tuesday now. Come on!

Also finding the Aurora brochure useful/interesting - seems that only the LX has a jump drive!?

    As standard, yes.
All ships as I understand it can have a jump drive fitted.

Also, No Hornets until Tuesday? FUUUUUUUUUUUUU.....

Apparently there's an F7C-H Super Hornet as one of the options....

It's interesting that jump drives aren't standard on some ships, which means early time in game may well be spent within one system.

    It's the F7C-M Super Hornet.

There has also been unconfirmed evidence showing an AWACS style Hornet. Most probably a ECM-specialist. F7C-E?

The third variant hasn't been found, but CIG did state a while ago that they were looking into a speed/racer/stealth variant. F7C-R?

It's unknown if those are the three variants in total or not, but what we do know is that 2 of those variants will be available permenantly, whilst one will be available for a single week only.

Edit: Actually, the F7R is the Recon/AWACS variant, it seems. So the other racer/stealth one would have another name.

I want a fighter Hornet, pure and simple. Already got an M50 and 350R for speed!

I don't see there being a version that's more 'fightery' than the standard hornet. It's already built as a pure out and out dogfighter. My betting is that the variants will all have a different role to play.

If they can sell it for more cash I dont see why they would not make it. As long as its balanced in game by other races having similar ships.

The F7C is probably going to be the de-facto single seater dogfighter. The Super Hornet has rumours of being a 2-seater. Parge pretty much has it on the head.

Isn't the standard hornet the watered civ version (F7C), the F7A is the decked out one with the sharks teeth and eagles head and whatever else those 'murican fly boys paint on their planes.

I getting less interested in this all now, does any one want a bog-standard Aurora with LTI?

The F7C is the "Civilianised" variant of the F7A (which isn't available to obtain without invalidating your citizenship in-game and having a bounty on your head along with the entire military adding you to a KoS list).

It has a smaller powerplant and less upgrade points on the ship than the military variant.

The skin of the craft has nothing of value, as every ship is skinnable with every available skin.

I didn't mean skins, just equipment.

Well the equipment is modular, depending on the number and class of hardpoints.

So the single player F7A is the top dogfighter.

I would have thought so - maybe something like the Scythe will give it a run for its money.

Yep, the F7A is the top gun of Hornets at present, only available in single player, or if you want to try your hand, available in the universe if you don't mind being hunted down like a dog by the military and bounty hunters. :) Personally I don't think the Scythe has anywhere near the firepower of the Hornet. The bonus of the Scythe is the blade, however. I'd still take the Hornet any day. Nothing will get that close to me in the first place. ;)

There has been talk that once the F8A comes out when the game is live after full release, they will declassify the F7A for civilian purchase, much like how the military have sold off the Idris-M variant and captured Scythes: They feel they have better technology.

The Hornet Ghost looks tasty! Shame about lack of hard points but I guess that's to be expected.

Are they planning to do any Freelancer variants?
