My new TV/monitor's speakers aren't as good as my PC speakers. The TV has an 'audio in' socket (for PC/DVI), but no 'audio out' or headphone socket. It does have L and R audio sockets in the component bit though. I would like to plug in regular ol' PC speakers with the green end. Is plugging the PC speakers into an RCA cable, and then the RCA cable into the audio sockets of the component section of my TV, what I need to do? EDIT: I bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131068619252?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Didn't work. The male for the PC speakers doesn't go all the way in. Very quiet sound can be heard, but not above the major buzzing noise. Yep. On PS3 you can enable multiple outputs for sound, so you can connect via HDMI to a TV/monitor, then use the old-style "Multi AV" cable to output to two phono's.
Are you saying connect an AV cable to the PS3, and then connect the audio parts and the speakers into a female-to-female RCA? (btw Xbox 360 can use AV and HDMI together as well, just remove the AV cable case with a knife so it fits when the HDMI cable's also in. Nice scam Microsoft have got going there)
Yes, in your case you could use a Female RCA to 2.5mm female adapter to connect it up to your speakers. In my case it just connects straight into a separates amp, which has the usual RCA inputs.

Alternatively you can do optical out for PS3 and 360 to an amp for audio, Or optical out from your TV to your audio reciever>?
I don't have a PS3, I'm answering the questions based on Smiffydude's reply. Looking at Smiffy's connector, it is a female 3.5mm stereo jack (to which you connect the green jack into) and two male RCA jacks to be connected to the TV. The item you bought is a female RCA, which is why the jack does not fit in fully. You need to get the connectors as shown by Smiffys'.

The clue is in the title: You'll need a stereo one. Edit: Any one of these is what you need: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5MM-STE...ion_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item43c42e5cd6 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-Ste...ion_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item5d3eb29605 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-5mm-Ste...ion_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item233166d8a2 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STEREO-RC...ion_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3cb68e1e17
Are these outputs? If not then plugging anything into them wont work. If the TV has no sound outputs then you need to interrupt the sound when it comes out the console. How do you connect the consoles to TV, YrbRPr? HDMI? Smiffydudes answer only works if the L and R on the back of the TV are outputs.
If all the tv audio connections are inputs then something else has to output the sound, like on mine I have a dvd player linked to speakers...but that's only good for watching a film. For tv I would need and external hd freeview box with audio outputs linked to speakers. I too have a crap tv why would they make a tv with rubbish sound and have no audio outputs......what chimps made that decision. Not familar with consoles but I remember my gamecube had component audio this would need to be connected to an amp +speakers eg. a stereo with componets should work.
I got the right cable in the end. It goes Console - AV cable -> Red and white ends into two female ends of converter cable - speaker cable into other end (which is also female) <- speaker cable - speakers
