Just installed windows 7 onto a new hard drive. All set up. All fine. About 30 mins later, shut down. Restarted, and the same happened. Went in the internet, and found many many people have the same problem. A lot suggested it was the PSU on its way out. I dont think so. What i did. I put a hd in with windows xp, and it was on for hours with a be quiet 630 PSU. Took that PSU out, and fitted a CIT 650, with windows xp. Ran for hours, no bother Fitted both to my pc with windows 7. And both times it shut down after about 30 mins So, the two PSU's are ok. Anybody got a clue whats going on?.
I had similar issue with the so called 'idle bug', assuming it's an Intel CPU. I switched off some CPU power saving options in the BIOS, which sorted it. I turned them all off and added them back one by one to check it was stable in idle. I'm not near my PC at the moment so can't check which. I think it was the C (insert number 1 to 6) states, which caused the issue.
AMD Sempron 145 2.81ghz Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 2gb of crucial ram- 2 sticks Seagate 160gb ide hard drive YEHBABY.Ill try that and see what happens
YEHBABY. Im on my windows xp pc now. I have been into bios but cant find the CPU power saving options. Can you plese tell me how to get there and what you did. Cheers
What does the event viewer say? (start - type "event viewer") Have a look through there. It may be overheating? It may just think it's idle... it'll say.
You're after the following options if they exist: Cool 'N' Quiet Turbo Core APM (power management) Anything to do with 'core modes' or similar (e.g. core C6 mode) However, most of the above should already be enabled by default.
Event viewer.- Three critical. (all the same) Bugcheck Perameter-0x0 Bugcheck Perameter-0x0 Bugcheck Perameter-0x0 Bugcheck Perameter-0x0 Sleep in Progress- True My Speedfan temp was about 41c, so no overheating Went into BIOS. Advanced BIOS Features AMD K8 cool+quiet control...I turned that from Auto to Disabled. Still shuts down after 30 mins or so. One thing= When i turn my pc back on again, it goes straight to the 'password' page. It does not start with the m/b beep. or anything, but straight to 'password page Once again, i can unplug the Windows 7 hard drive, and plug in my Windows xp hard drive, to the same motherboard and cpu, and windows xp runs for hours. So is the answer in BIOS?. Im not so sure.!
A quick google seems to show a lot of people with various problems, that you could try to eliminate the shutdown. https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=cr&ei=k4OHUpKiN8im0QXS4oCgBg#q=win+7+random+shutdown Faulty stick of ram - try one stick at a time. Power supply - looks like you've already tried this. Motherboard - not really practical unless you have a spare. Requires new CMOS Battery.
Could it be just the usual standby? (S3 power state) Does it "shut" itself down after being completely idle, or while you're using it?
Thank you all for your help. Its sorted now I tried all the fixes inc another m/b, but nothing worked Then Snakko chimed in, and i looked at his suggestion . And it worked. What i did= Went to - Hardware and Sounds<>Power Options<>Edit plan settings<>Put the computer to sleep....... 'Put the computer to sleep' was set at 30 min's(default i suppose) I changed that to 'never'. Now Windows 7 is on as long as i need. Wufer happy now Now all i have to do is get my Windows 7 pc on line. Damn wireless Anybody know a simple wired modem that works with Windows 7? PS. hope this helps other people with the same problem.
