I've sewn teddies back together in the past, is that enough training to be a surgeon?

You can be orthopedic surgeons with those skills no problem.

How do you recognise an academic orthopod?
He can just about get his knuckles off the floor.

3 orthopods were proud to finish a jigsaw in 5 days. When asked why, they pointed out that it said "3-5 years" on the box.

What do you call two orthopods looking at an X-Ray?
    A double blind study.

Good to know we have 'trained' medical professionals in BitSec :p
Should be lots of fun for the first person that needs triage.

My medical skills include Surgeon Simulator and Team Fortress 2. That's more than the average in some countries I'll not name.

Anyone is up for "Operation Pitchfork"?

    Me.

I'm a bit dis-satisfied with the currently proposed random dispersal at jump point emergence, however, I figured I may-as-well start thinking tactically about how to go about defending (and attacking) a convoy.

I much prefer the idea of a cone (30 degrees or so) for jump point emergence - the base of the cone pointing in-system. And the faster you enter the jump point, the closer you are to the point, but your vector is conserved so you're zooming; but if you're crawling along then you emerge closer to the base and the faster ships can gain on you. Something like that would allow formation flying through jump points and open up the possibility for a tactical assault that doesn't begin with five minutes of re-grouping.

So right now attacking a convoy has the advantage

Can have - that was just one random jump - equally I pulled the number of defending and attacking craft out of thin air, and finally ship type and pilot skill will have a pretty massive effect too.

But in essence, yea. Sitting waiting you can be in whatever ideal formation works for your numbers and types of craft - we still don't know if vector will be preserved post jump, this first (and quick) simulation shows a static emergence, next on my list is to play with moving targets. As things stand at the moment however, you'll always be emerging in a hodge-podge fashion against an organised foe.

It's an odd case where force deposition first can have the advantage of force deposition last.

Remember though that the contrary can occur, the emerging convoy could all arrive in the same octadrant, paste the pirate that was waiting there, and move out as a force majeure, unlikely, but possible.

I'm guessing you would have a small amount of time to assess your chances and fight or flight

On that note, Bit-Sec will soon be large enough to field a "Cone of Battle".

Just SketchUp, export the animation as png's, compile and compress using I remember not what and I'm at my gf's and bob's your uncle. There are a couple of plugins I'd like to have a play about with to smooth out the animation, but that's all there is too it.
