    Hi all,

I'm looking to build a small, quiet, powerful rig - not for gaming, though. Mainly for Autocad + general all purpose usage. It needs to be fast with the potential for upgrading the graphics card some time down the line (assuming I want to game on it ;) )

I'm flexible on the form factor, I have been looking at mini-ITX but the build is very tight, so would be happy with an ATX. I don't know much about microATX, however, not sure if this should be an option?

I'm looking for a recommendation on the case, motherboard and CPU.

Remember it should be quiet and, ideally, small

Thanks so much fellow Bit Techers, you lot never let me down!

Edit: If you can recommend me any good articles, roundups etc that talk to my needs that would be fantastic.

How about this for a build - Is the mobo/cpu choice a compatible one - is Socket 1150 the same as H87? Forgive me I'm a little out of touch! Also - same question for the RAM, is it compatible with the mobo?

    CPU Intel Core i5 4670K £170
MOBO Gigabyte GA-H87N-WIFI, Intel H87 Mini ITX £90
    RAM 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Desktop PC3-12800 (1600) £60
    SSD 240GB Crucial M500 2.5" £90
PSU 650W Corsair RM Series CP-9020054-UK, Full Modular, 80PLUS Gold £80
CASE Corsair Obsidian 250D Mini ITX PC case £80
COOLER Corsair H80i Hydro Series £75
OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 English 1 Pack DSP OEI DVD LCP (PC) £70

    Total £703

Optical Drive - reuse from previous system
GPU - reuse from previous system

Very similar build that i'm looking at! For an extra tenner, get the MSI Z87 board? or save a few squids and get the 4670 (no K)?

Also, on Scan you can get a factory refurbed H80i on the cheap.

(AlienwareAndy has given me some good advice...!)

Thanks for coming back to me, I don't think overclocking's a necessity here, I've changed a couple of things in my build and brought the price down by £100 by using the stock cooler a cheaper mobo. I also managed to increase the capacity of the SSD and move to a Micro ATX instead of Mini ITX mobo/case :)

This is what it looks like now - what do you think?

    CPU Intel Core i5 4670 £162
    MOBO Gigabyte GA-H87M-D3H MicroATX £71
RAM 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile £62
    SSD 240GB Crucial M500 2.5" £90
PSU 650W Corsair RM Series CP-9020054-UK, Full Modular, 80PLUS Gold £80
CASE Fractal Design Define Mini micro ATX £68
OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 English 1 Pack DSP OEI DVD LCP (PC) £70

    Total £602
