Anyone got any experiences of these, I basic,y need a portable laptop for Cad work so I'm toying with the idea of getting a 13-15.6 gaming laptop system.

So I had one from PCSpecialist and ended up sending it back because the build quality was awful - this taught me to avoid anything with a Clevo chassis so I'd watch out for that, but don't let it put you off either. You can return it within 14 days if you aren't happy with it (you just won't know until it turns up - it could be fine/you maybe less picky than me).

BUT not everything has a Clevo chassis, take this for example - http://3xs.scan.co.uk/configurator/...-gaming-laptop-and-intel-core-i7-geforce-870m - this uses the same chassis as my MSI GS70 Stealth (it doesn't have the steelseries keyboard but hey, the MSI one needs a USP!).

So don't be put off and don't be scared of returning it if you aren't happy with the quality of the product :)

Don't be put of by Clevo laptops!

I've had a few and they are very good quality in my opinion. I had one that was replaced under warranty because Nvidia optimus wasn't working properly. But I've had three others that I have been very fond of and impressed with the quality by. They make excellent desktop replacement "laptops" that are very user serviceable.

Of course some models are better than others.

Have you looked at the Asus G750? I will order one next week as a desktop replacement.

That is a fair point - there chassis in mine was just an awful piece of design and hardware (crap keyboard, massive chassis, cheap materials etc)and I haven't been that impressed with other peoples ones either BUT it could just have been certain models. I thought I was making a fairly qualified argument but I do appreciate it is a small sample pool.

I will say this though, they are very "plasticy"!

But very well constructed and equally sturdy designs.
Their ultrabooks are very nice. I had an awesome 14 incher. I really regret selling it.
I too am very skeptic about laptops as I have had several macbooks and you can argue that their unibody construction is the best in the business and so far I have only been satisfied with clevo and asus if I need a windows laptop.

I too have a MacBook Pro (at work) and that is kind of what made me so annoyed with the system I got with the Clevo chassis, especially when I got the GS70 Stealth afterwards (almost comparable to the Mac level of build).

I've been looking into exactly the same thing. In a few days' time the Gigabyte P34G v2 comes out in the UK for about £1000. Reviews are very favourable.

    What's your budget?

Just got a Dell M3800 15.6" Core i7 16 GBRAM NVidia Quadro - more than capable for mobile CAD work, pretty expensive though (the config I got was about £2100 new, I got a refurb for £1500)

Very capable laptop and good looking too!

So far, very impressed with this machine.

Lovely build quality with zero flex, despite the weight. Lovely quiet cooling, even under prolonged loads.

Scored 4790 in 3dmark11 with 135+ mhz on the core without any additional power, I think there is plenty of room left but the sliders in afterburner are all maxed out.
