    Morning all,
Looking to upgrade my 650Ti with a more powerful card, and was looking at the £200 mark (so GTX760 R9 280 etc) but noticed, someone is selling a 580GTX locally for £60...
I know the 580 is older, but is this money well spent? I have lived with my head under some rocks for about 3-4 years as far as graphics cards really go, only just got a gaming rig on the go!
    Should I go for it?
Or is money better spent on a newer card?
Gaming wise, I currently play world of tanks, and used to play many RTS's but apart from that not a lot. No Crysis 3 yet!

I bought a 580gtx SOC a couple of months ago, I find it just fine, I game at 1920x1200. I mean it's loads cheaper than a 200 quid card :)

See my sig? I use a GTX 580 1.5 GB and run BF4 @ 1440p(27" Dell Ultra sharp) on ultra. Just have to turn down one step from Habo lighting and play in window mode to get good FPS. Defiantly very good price to performance ratio at that price.

My other concern is this will be air cooled, in a TJ07 which isn't the best for air cooling a GPU, does anyone have any temp problems? CPU is on water, and there is the x2 92mm intake at the motherboard IO, and x2 120mm output on the roof but is that enough? Or will it toast itself?

I have an Antec gx700 that isn't amazing for air flow - I have h100 on cpu that pulls air in through the top, 2 120mm fans at the front spinning very slow, and one 120mm outtake spinning very slow, my 580 dumps all the heat in the case and it doesn't ever get too hot. I mean, I think it gets up to 90 when I am gaming, but I have gamed all day and it's not had any problems.

I bought one last week and so far it's been great. For £60 it's a bargain. Check your PSU's up to the job first though, just in case - the 580 will draw a fair amount of power.

I'm running a GTX 570, its the MSI Twin Frozr 3 Power Edition which is factory overclocked and there is room to push it a bit more before requiring upping the voltage.

Had no issues with it at all in 1920x1080, most of the games run maxxed out, odd few recently I have had to knock AA back, physics to medium and shadows down to normal but its still powering through everything I throw at it.

Just to chip in - the 580 is about equivalent to a 660Ti, so it should happily outperform a 650Ti.

I had 3 GTX 580's sandwiched together in a TJ07 with no direct fans blowing at them, and they ran fine. So a single card will be more than fine in that case. :)

I only ever buy them in packs of 3 now... lol - But our good friend who is no longer with us would tell us it doesn't work... Big LOL! (For those wanting in on this insode joke, go to the Bit-tech Social club under groups and read the last few pages... ;) )

I think you're right! - Well I'm glad it's still going after all these years. :)
