Please, do not vinyl dye it. It has a history right now Plus, it looks cool with all those scratches etc.
Really looking forward to see how this builds up! Don't vinyl dye the case btw, looks much better with weared out paint (like it is) :: Edit: I write to slow! ::
Ya, I won't dye it, older = better. There are just some stickers and "new paint" marks that don't seem to be from acutal use, but more from storage and handeling. I will probably sand it off rather than use paint.
got no words for that kind of work.... it's gonna be really awesome once finished... but man... don't you have breaks sometimes? you're always modding something... but it definitly worth it if you look at the results like many others... can't wait to see the final results...
when I stealthed my optical drives, I just soldered the new switch right onto the old leads, that way the switch still works, and my new switch works. later I got a little daring and wired up a little remote jack that I could plug into the front of my computer. I used little headphone jacks to carry the signal, basically I still had the two switches from before, then I spliced into the newere switch and added a cable to the headphone jack, there are three in all. I did the exact same thing for the power button. I then wired a nice little momentary switch panel that has five switches on it, one is not being used, then if I ever want to, I can just put the headphone male ends into the front of my computer's female ends and can controll the eject and everything remotely. I just did it to see if I could do it, but you could actually use it, consider sticking those connections onto your keyboard, then you could turn the power on or off, eject the CD drive, do just about anythng.
Jez Zap, you put too many posts in a row! Looks good! Now that i see the screen, are you going to paint it camo style or somthing? And are you going to be changing the power cords on that as well, or just leave it alone?
speaking of which, which video card are you planning on using, and do you plan on running a sound card?
The new screen will be black in the first place, so it will probably get some lighting mods. Hmm, I didn't think about the power for the monitor. It will probably not be modified as the power convertor is built into the montior. This could all change when I can save up and get the monitor. The graphics card will be either a TI4200 or geForceFX card. That could all change, as I will have to save up money before I can get the card. This is the one on my wish list though: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=14-145-031 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: A second case! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2181334237&category=588&rd=1 I just won a very good case off of e-Bay. Originaly this case was going to house the entire PC, but I fell in love with the above ammo box, simply because of it's armored looks. But the case from e-bay "should" be large enough to house the entire ammo case, plus LCD, and mabye even the cords also.
I got an idea now eeek. Why don't you mod a 120V wall socket or two to the case? That way you can connect power to the monitor and something else if needed. You could just parallel them from the PSU connector.
I thought about adding another XLR jack the second your guys mentioned power for the monitor. But in all reality, the monitor may end up totaly modded into the case I got off of ebay. So it would end up with the plug socket.
Look at my website www.zapwizard.com I started out doing crappy stuff too. It's just finding out how you can improve an already good idea. All the VFD Details are here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23501

Great Idea and looks good too. I bet its going to be a lot of fun building it. It reminds me of IBMs portable computer with the flip down keyboard and built in 5 inch display. I used one to program PLC's for paper rewinders.
Very impressive work Zap and I love the security and integration of the keyboard and USB connections. I think this project would benefit by integrating the monitor into the design as a fold-up option to really make it stand out as an all in one system. I'll be keeping my eye on this one.
As it's a LAN PC, make sure (if you decide to put the monitor in the box) that it is as ergonomical (sp?) as possible. I know by experience that you often sit by the computer, gaming several days almost without moving your body
