I have a MSI power edition GTX670 Twin Frozr and it used to happily play BF4 on 60-65% fan at 69c but now it's sitting up around 80c with the same fan speed. I can tame it to around 76c with the 76% fan speed but it's too noisy. Now I know we have had a lot warmer temps recently but I'm still getting these results first thing in the morning and last thing last night when I'm sat here with the window open feeling quite chilly. I want to replace the tim but I know that would invalidate the warranty. My case has more than adequate cooling as well. Anyone got any ideas?
Yup first thing I did, took it out checked it, hardly any dust but blew it out anyways, no better. It run's the fans in reverse at full pelt on boot up to stop dust collecting and seems to do the job well.
As long as it is <100°C then it will be fine. In my experience GPUs usually run much hotter than CPUs, even with good cooling. I have been regularly seeing 90°C+ for years and never had a failed GPU.
are the fans moving freely as 1 on my 560ti twin frozr went funny and I put a h55 on it usin a nxtz g10 bracket and down to 40c full load
Yeh I'm not too bothered by the temps its the associated fan speed and the fact it wasn't this hot before. I've changed my profiles in afterburner and its keeping the same temps with less fan noise which is some kind of result.
Very funny But seriously it must be a horrible job installing something like that? I read that Corsair are going to make brackets soon.
you could always place a desk fan blowing into the case with the side off. for the 560ti there was 4 screws holding the whole unit on then used mx4 on the gpu. I just tried it on this as I'm contemplating using 1 on my 780 I have the h55 on the 560ti and a h50 on the 2500k
The temperature first thing in the morning nowadays is still hotter than first thing in the morning six months ago is one explanation I have. The other like MSHunter said could be degraded TIM.
The thermal paste isn't the best and it is probably dry now. A GPU cooler is just like that one on your CPU. It's no more difficult to change or take off. Are there any stickers over the screws? If not, go for it. Also. Don't use any silver based paste. There are a lot of uncovered little bits on a GPU and one bit of paste there will short them. Use something like Noctua NT-H1. It's by far my favourite TIM and has been for a while. It's easy to apply, easy to remove and easily spreadable too.
Yeh I've done it loads of times before, it's the warrant that would stop me nothing else and I always use MX, be it 2 or 4.
