Great choice of heatsink, I exactly have the same for my own project

 

Even though I've been following your build, I must have missed your last update. I swear I'm not copying you . I happened to stumble over one for cheap on ebay, I really hope it fits . I think it'll drop temps like 10C in open air, hopefully I see some gains with the side panels on.

 

I'm sure you didn't copy. And if it appears that this heatsink sucks, we will be two who made a poor choice But I hop it will fit in your case. It has to.

 

One more quick update before I work on some final shots. The cooler showed up and it fits! Under load with the stock fan I'm seeing a 5-10C drop with the side panels on. I attempted to fit the GT to it but even trimming a bunch off the fan it's still ~1/8" too tall. So I did my thing to the stock fan.







Now I need to find a good place to take some nice photos. The chrome hub caps means you see just about everything surrounding the case so I'm not quite sure if I should just stick with a white background or try to find a interesting place to snap some shots. I guess I need to do some experimenting.

The trick will be to get the camera to focus on the case, not the stuff in the reflection.

Don't forget to strip naked for the photoshoot.

There are things that cannot be unseen.

 

I finally found a place I like to take some pictures. It's only accessible by bicycle so I think Monday I'll rope my little bro into going with me to help carry stuff.

 

Just a table with a plain white background will do...

 

It's not as bad as it sounds. There's bike path by my house and the spot is only a few minutes away.

I'll probably take some normal photos too. I just have not had much luck taking pictures inside my house so I figured I could have some fun with it.

But, I have to confess, I'm a little bit confuse about your CPU cooler disposition : I think the end of the heat pipe should not face down. I found nothing on this on Thermalright's technical page but both Scythe and Noctua recomand to not do so :

 

Wow I completely overlooked that. I know it won't fit rotated 180 deg which is why I put it in that way. But I bet it will be alright if I put the heatpipes toward the ram. I'll try that out and see what happens. Thanks!

At the request of someone else I took some pictures of it in use. I already returned the dslr I borrowed so sorry about the crappy pictures. The lighting in my room is horrible too .









Load temps aren't too bad at all, they seem to be plateauing at ~65-70C.

No kidding. And nice choice on the X-25m SSD, they are nice and nicely priced still.

It was my first SSD many years ago and it's still going strong!

 

Wow, I just love the base and feet, and the way all cables are tucked at the back.

Also, the setting for the shoot is excellent - the contrast of modern/rustic, shiny/textured, and wheel/railroad!
