This is a tough one. I'm sure my list changes all the time. Also made harder by the fact that I can't sort by rating for films I've rated in Netflix any longer. Wow, so that list was in jest, and I would have thought the last stellar entry would have made that clear... I thought long and hard about my 5 top films and then decided it was too difficult to figure it out, so opted for 5 terrible films. Granted, Howard the Duck was a laugh when I was 6, but top 5 material? I'll try harder this time, in no particular order... Pulp Fiction Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco (It would feel improper to take two slots with one genre) Sound of Music (shut up) Heat - desperately looking forward to watching this again once my cinema renovation is finished Full Metal Jacket I'm not saying these are what I view as the five best films ever, but they're films that I could literally watch any time, any place, and not get bored of, ever. There's your problem. You should have seen it when you were about 16 (I was 20). Then you would have appreciated the Lea Thompson knickers shot. There are many other films I could have added to my top five. Anything Studio Ghibli, the original Star Wars trilogy, Raiders of the Lost Ark (not the sequels), Terminator and Terminator 2 (not the sequels), ALIEN and Aliens (nor the sequels), The Matrix (not the sequels). Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Franklyn. Other honourable mentions: CE3K, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Labyrinth, Sneakers, Tremors, Muriel's Wedding (yes, really), Strictly Ballroom (yes, really), Nineteen Eighty-Four (the 1984 version), Contact.
Maybe I was a bit older than 6 (or maybe I was a horny 6 year old), I definitely recall the shot. These kids these days with their digital video and fancy pauses that don't totally corrupt the screen and wear the tape prematurely don't know how lucky they have it. Really liked Mary Shelley's Frankenstein too, the one with Kenneth Branagh, Robert DeNiro and Helena Bonham Carter. The music was haunting.
