Out of curiosity, do mechanical keyboards make all the difference? Do they feel that much different?

When you say do they feel much different do you mean from one another or from membrane boards? Either way the answer is yes - MX Brown on one board can feel very different from MX Brown on another (different materials for the keycaps etc). As for the comparison with membrane boards - there's no comparison in my opinion - mechanical boards have a much more consistent feel and are much easier and quicker to type on than their membrane counterparts.

It's entirely subjective. I'm neither a hardcore gamer nor a particularly proficient typist. I mainly love mechanical keyboards for:

    1) The noise
    2) The "feel" of the keys (applicable to all types of mechanical switches tbh)
    3) The variety of colours, customisation and modding options
    4) The geek factor

However, I have used a number of good rubberdome keyboards in the past, and occasionally prefer the more spongy feel of the keypresses. Also, if you're into multi-coloured backlighting it's much cheaper on rubberdomes than on mechanical keyboards.

When are you next in the UK (or civilisation in general)? You could pop into the local PC retailer and see if you can press a few different mechs - they'll either grab you or they won't.

Be warned - it's not a cheap hobby, but then as you well know PC gaming and customisation rarely is!

Despite using them at college in the late 80's, and preferring them for Counter Strike matches (very serious business :) ) in the early noughties, I didn't know what a "mechanical" keyboard was until reading about them on here recently. We just used to call them "nice and clunky" keyboards. :)

Hi Betty! It's all down to personal preference, but i found they made a big difference for me in terms of hand cramps and fatigue.

be careful, it's a very deep rabbit hole. Though if you've not yet spent £300 on a keyboard then you're doing alright :) haha.

Even worse when you spend that kind of money on a keyboard that you end up no longer using, but since you don't like the idea of selling it you kind of just give it to your brother to keep it in the family....

He he, I made a good start, 2 boards in one day, G80 3000 with blues off a forumite I won't mention in case he'd prefer it that way and a G80 1800 with blacks off shirty, one new and the other practically new for £45 inc each, so doing pretty well so far.

Just from this week I owe a lot to this forums members with both information and great deals on hardware, already have some ideas on ways I can give a bit back :thumb:

On a different note, is it possible to buy casings for the g80 1800? I don't hate the beige, but it doesn't go with anything else I own :D
