Memory Triple Channel RAM Question

Hi

I have 3x2GB triple channel ram at pressent but need more.
I have 6 slots (for x2 triple channel configurations).
I was going to add dual channel 2x4GB. My issue is my 1st ram slot is blocked by my cooler, can I add the 2x4GB ram in to the 2nd and 3rd?

Not wanting to sound like an arse, but you have 3Gb ram sticks? That doesn't sound 'normal'!

You may have an issue with voltage as opposed to the number of channels here - I would await a reply from an x58 guru

Okay so 2 is blocked can I use 4 & 6 for dual channel if 2 is vacant?

 

i just removed 1 4gb stick from my 6 slots of 4gb

so 1st slot is empty and it boots fine

i have 3 sets of duel channel in mine

 

1st slot being DDR3 slot 2? I take it you have 6 sticks of RAM. lol Stupid Thermaltake frio

if your other triple channel was still in surely it would still run.

 

it runs fine with 5 sticks in mate have you tried it

what volt are the sticks as mine are all 1.5v

 

I haven't bought them yet, didn't want to waste money if it doesn't work
