Anyone picked up one of these? Finally an affordable, unlocked 6 core chip from Intel. It took, far, far too long to arrive, but it looks like it could be the new i7 920. I would like to see some more mATX X99 boards though.
Doesn't seem to be much buzz for the 5820K around here at the moment. The price of DDR4 puts a dampener on things from my point of view.
I just looked! WOWWWWZAAA! £240 for the cheapest 16GB kit. You'd have to be mad to get on that bus now. Apparently Intel bought the launch forward 2 weeks - the Mobo manufacturers were ok, but the memory guys were all over the shop, not ready to launch, no specs locked down, testing and compatibility not finished. Hopefully by Xmas we'll see things stabilise a bit.
I was just looking at it myself CPU + Motherboard + Ram = around £1300 either that or 4x 970 GPU's,what to get?
I have my 5820K desktop for a week now, didn't do much OC : Using it with just 8GB RAM DDR4-2133 i was able to buy for 90 euros as i am still waiting for my 32GB kit.
Got a 5820k running 4gig all cores with no issues. This chip rocks. The micron DDR chips OC very easily runnning 2400, though the PCI slot spacing is a bit of a vortex depending on how many lanes the CPU has changes the bandwidth of the slots.
If you want to do it on the cheap just pick up an £80 8GB Dual Channel DDR4 Kit, and buy a propper quad channel kit when the prices are more sensible Should still have plenty of memory bandwidth for pretty much everything you do in standard use. CPU + MOBO = £454.38 from Scan (24/10/14) Ram = £78.38 6 Haswell Cores for £532.76 instead of £691.51
Any modern games support 6 core? Think I am going to upgrade end of the month to this chip, also want to get a korg kronos so I am spread thin, going to be either one or the other.
