He already stated that he planned to remove the ammo text a page or two back.

/EDIT I almost missed the green glowy bits post. It's looking better and better,:thumb: though the VFD looks pale blue now.

    More updates:

Ok today I got two updates done, but like normal I screwed up somewhere on each:

    First the PSU.

I had to remove the top-fan and install a side fan.
I put acrylic over the old fan and power hole.
I also cut the hole originaly for a 60mm fan, but the hole in the ammo case is only made for a 50mm fan.
So acrylic was again applied to correct this.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The side fan will pull air in from here:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also re-located the 120-volt plug to the other side, this will give me the ablity to easily plug into the jack from the front of the ammo box. (Faceplate side)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cut the hole for the DVD drive at the back.
I actualy screwed this up, and cut the hole too big.
Fortunently, because this is an ammo box the plastic it is made out of is flame resistant.
What this allowed me to do was cut a flat scarp peice out of the door, use it to fill the extra heighth in the hole.
Then I was able to actualy melt some plastic shavings and fill in any gaps in the case.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The DVD now fits as planned.
The hole is tappered on the inside to let the door open easy.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for the bottom, I may or may not apply grill work.
But I think I like the look of it on the back.
Then again it draws attention to the DVD drive where otherwise it would have been fairly hidden.

I like the grill work on the bottom, and it does attract attention to the drive, it adds clean lines... so that may not be what you're looking for.

    How's that 50mm fan sound?

It's loud, but steady, so it's not annoying.
It's really pretty powerfull, it came off a Slot-type Athlon A

You could just cut a small square of the grill and place it over the dvd drive to hide it better.

    Re: More updates:

-> that sounds very un-zap like :worried:
-> wouldn't it be better if the PSU was pushing air out of the case instead of pulling air in?

I had the same idea. (But I would use a rectangle)

Is it good that the heated air from the PSU is heating the rest of the computer? Would it not be better to turn the fan around?

/EDIT Both of my comments are already posted. Darn.

You could glue some of that grill on the DVD drive, then it would be totaly invissible (if done well, that is :)).

And I know you've heard this 100 times by now, but this really is the best mod I have ever seen.

wow, this thing is incredible:rock:  ... DEFINATELY the best mobile pc I've ever seen.

I like the idea of covering the DVD drive with the mesh...

one other idea, get a battery hooked up to those LED's, so that even when it's not plugged in it will still light up...

Great work zap, you just keep getting better and better:rock:

Zap, I have been unconveniently out of town and I haven't been able to be online until today. I read all 7 pages and I kept hoping there was more.. Zap, as always, you have done a magnificient job!

Zap - would you mind me showing off your progress on this case in my presentation on modding next week? I already have plans for a blurb on the media pc (and with 50 minutes to burn) I would be really excited if you gave me permission :p

    http://www.baber.com/cases/1u_2u_risercards.htm
It is listed under 2U riser cards.

I already posted my plan to do this.
I will have two 6volt lead acid batteries on a trickle charge.
    (They will give out 12volts)

I then will have all the lighting on a switch, that I can kick-over from battery to to PSU

Beta this is for the presentation you are doing correct?
If so SURE! I would love to get more coverage of modding out there.
