I didn't really want a Silverline branded one on account of Silverline being garbage, however, after much looking around it seems that most brands use this exact same model, just in different colours with their own branding on the top. This also happened to be cheapest so that's fine I guess.

And 2 of these to put the above on:

I still need to pick up a vice for the drill table and a new drill bit set ( my old £5 market stall set of bits are either broken or blunt mainly... ), and maybe a spare bandsaw blade with more tpi ( included is 6tpi, might want a 24tpi for cutting aluminium bars or doing finer cuts on stuff ).

Got one myself different make ( Ferm ) but same thing got mine from screwfix the only criticism I have is the distance between the chuck and the pillar ( had to drill a hole in the middle of round plate and it was to big for the drill ) apart from that they're are pretty good had mine for years although since I got the mill don't have any use for it anymore.

Nah, already built that using hand tools, though I may remake 1 part with my new tools to get a better finish. Otherwise, I'm just up to no good as per usual... :D :worried:

Nerfgun modding mainly, though I also want to build a small camera jib(arm), an air cannon, another custom r/c truck, a knife display stand for several large fantasy knives, a cuddly toy, and various other things to keep me amused...

It's either that, or I spend my spare cash on drugs & hookers...

Good tip. I'm going to see how I get on with just a light coating of white paraffin, 'cos it's food safe and one of the things I'm using the knife for is food prep. Which, I'm pleased to say, it did on the picnic just fine. Didn't get a chance to use the serrated blade, but the straight-edge chopped up some sausages and cheese for a sandwich just fine.

My Olite S20-L2 Baton has just arrived, too. It's either entirely genuine or an extremely well-made fake, right down to the packaging - and while the markings don't match a Google Image search, that may be down to the returned images being the older non-L2 version (which was 470 lumen, rather than 550 lumen, peak output). All the modes work, it comes with all the extras (spare O-rings, silicone spacer if you want to remove the tail-cap magnet, branded lanyard, split-ring, battery sleeve for using 2x CR123s) promised. The only difference: buying the Olight (which is a Chinese company, remember) in the UK would have been about £50; I paid £23 delivered. Happy!

EDIT: That said, I've just found a review of specifically the L2 version which does show different markings, and also makes a point of referring to an orange-peel reflector rather than the flat reflector my model has - so it looks like it is, unsurprisingly, a fake. Not that I care, 'cos it's just as bright and seems to have all the modes of the real deal, so I'm happy to opt for the cheaper knock-off!

EDIT EDIT: Found comments on a forum which suggests that it might be genuine after all: apparently some time late last year Olight switched to new markings and a flat, rather than orange peel, reflector. In fact, there's an official comment from Olight on a torch forum (totally a thing, apparently) which says that "Now the new S20-L2 Baton all used the smooth reflector, the serial number is on the side of the tube, under the model number and the serial itself is started with a 'E'" which matches mine perfectly. So, I guess it's genuine, and all these edits have been for naught. Hooray? Hooray!

Our local camera shop wanted £40+ for exactly the same model. I don't mind coughing up a quid or two to support an independent shop, but I'm not willing to pay twice the price!

And that is why so many local camera shops struggle. The independent closest to where I live used to charge silly prices and eventually went into administration before closing a couple years ago. They just can't compete with online pricing.

Did get some deals out of them in their closing down sale though.

The same applies to many, if not all shops really- online retailers who don't opperate a store-front and only have warehouses have such a great advantage. Of course, it's the stupidly high rent prices on shops that are the main issue, until something changes there the high street is going to continue dying...

I don't think that's really true to be honest. If a bricks and mortar store loses out to online it's because it isn't a viable business the way they were running it. Online is great for getting a low price, but it sucks for pretty much everything else. It's the same deal that people have with supermarkets. Somehow, despite the boom of online shopping and the presence of 3 big supermarkets (plus their local convenience branches) my local high street is better than it's ever been.

For instance, we have a fantastic greengrocer called Natoora. I mean they are genuinely amazing, stocking specialist produce from all over, all seasonal and the best quality available. Not only that but the staff are all keen as mustard about cooking and their produce. That place is packed everyday, despite being around the corner from an M&S, Waitrose and Sainsbury's. I pretty much buy all my veg in there now, it generally costs me no more than if I were to go to the supermarket, yet I get better produce, a friendly chat and the chance to try something new (which supermarket can you buy fresh bergamots in?).

Same deal goes for the butcher, we now two competing against each other and the supermarkets. Again, ever since I've dedicated time to going there, I've received better produce and either the same or a lower price because I can choose exactly what I need.

We also have a camera shop. Their prices are inline with the online pricing, but naturally not as good. But instead they offer other services and the ability to haggle. You can print your photos, rent equipment, ask advice, get a hands on with any piece of kit in the shop etc. They also have a fantastic stock of second hand bits of kit. I buy all my equipment there simply because the pricing isn't that far above the online shops, but you get so much more out of it.

The key to having a good high street nowadays is specialization IMO. People like going to smaller shops, it's simply a fun experience. But they won't if they don't offer something above what they can get elsewhere. People prefer to buy clothes in a shop for this reason. You get a bit more security from being able to try things on, plus the ability to change your mind and go for something else. Shops need to realise this more often and work out what makes them special.
