I am in the process of taking the heatspreaders off my HyperX predator DIMMS ( i think these things have been welded on as they were a right ££"$""@~~~### to get off ).

Anyway what i would like to know is what is this

It is attached ( with liquid Kryptonite? ) to the back side of the DIMM ) Can I leave it there or do I need to remove it somehow. If I leave it there would I need to put a thin thermal pad or will it be ok to just pad up the RAM chips when i put it in my EK block?

It's a Thermal Pad could also be like sticky back tape

Most likely some sort of adhesive TIM. Will probably be borderline impossible to remove but shouldn't do any harm to leave it there. RAM don't really need heat spreaders anyway, and being stuck to the back there it probably wasn't doing much in the first place.

I have left it there but to be on the safe side added a little bit of 2mm thermal pad. Other wise the DIMM just slipped out.

Unless you think someone besides the manufacturer put it there, I would leave it.

It looks exactly like blank PCB.

Yeah at first, I though maybe it was a Rambus RAM "CRIMM" (scroll down to 2nd image) stick, but the notches aren't right.
