I quite enjoyed the last MK, though I preferred Injustice.

"I think there's scope to make a really interesting, dynamic fighting game where physical injury and death are more than just gore porn."

And that's why Bushido Blade is STILL one of my favorite fighting games, almost twenty years after it's release.
It DID that. On the friggin' PlayStation.

You shatter someone's legs and they stop being able to USE those legs for the traditional leggy purposes like standing and walking, and are instead reduced to crawling like babies around the arena.
And if you run a katana through someone's chest or smack them in the head with a sledgehammer, they're DEAD. They don't shrug off having their heart impaled and resume slapping at you, they just fall over and quit moving. Even if it's the first hit of the match.

I may or may not have abused this in story mode by throwing out cheap shots the AI didn't handle well.
But it's okay, the game got it's revenge in the form of a miniboss with a friggin' pistol. IT TURNS OUT that guns have way better reach than katanas, and a bullet damages cranial functionality just as effectively as a sledgehammer. I still curse his name to this day.

The best games are too often marginalized and forgotten because they wind up being alien experiences that no one is sure what to do with.

Liked MK & fight games in general as a kid but not now, now I prefer big open world games where you can do a lot.

The trailer for this makes it look way better than it is.

Panza Kickboxing and ABC Sports Boxing are still the best fighting games. I played this at my friends house and it is perfect as a 90's style fighting game. The graphics are really good, the fighting is fast and smooth and plays well. My only issue is that it's not really any different to what beat em ups have been doing for 20+ years. It is perfect for the new generation that have never played stuff like that though, but if you grew up with SF2, MK, Tekken, etc. then this is just more of the same.

Injuries would be a nice addition, but there are lots of things they could do to push the genre forward, and they should do it. I'd like to be able to customise my character like in Panza, so you pick your moves and can make a fighter that does the moves you want, and give him a name, and then train him up. And I'd like to go through a world, even side scrolling, that isn't just a dozen stages. Basically, I'd much rather have an updated Jade Empire. Also quicktime events need to die.

Panza Kickboxing was great, especially being able to customise which moves your fighter had. The best fighting game is obviously International Karate + on the Amiga for 3-way mayhem and people's trousers falling down :D

i also loved bushido blade. i keep a copy of it around, but it's aged badly. a modern remake or even a new game around the principles of its combat would be fantastic.

Cue obligatory "I really enjoyed the last game" quote :p

Wasn't Shinnok in an earlier MK game? (I know he was in the dodgy 2nd film)

@dolphie they did in mk:deception kind of you learnt styles from all the main characters explored an openish world travelled between realms generally went from white belt to mk champion before u played as zombie Liu Kang and spammed fireballs and flying kicks at the end boss (that's the tactic that's worked in every mk game I've ever played ;) )

Hopefully mk x will play well on Xbox one with the new dpad design as previous neverrealm games were krippled (sorry) by the useless dpad compared to playstation I.e in mk9 the first shao Kahn fight is artifically hard on Xbox cus of the dpad but pretty easy on ps3. True I could unlearn 20+ years of muscle memory and use the stick but beat em ups = dpads for me...
