It'll put the cat amongst the pigeons if it's priced to compete with the 980 but generally matches or outperforms the Titan I won't get my hopes up though...
Going on what we know about the pricing of the 980 and that Nvidia is apparently planning on raining on AMD's parade with a 980ti can't we make an educated guess at the price? The 980ti is going to cost more than the 980 at £430-500 (unless we see a price drop), maybe the ti will demand a 20-30% premium making it around £600-650, so could the 390x be priced around that same level?
If that benchmark slide was right they won't just be raining on AMD's parade launching a faster ti card, but also on Titan owners.
It'll be interesting to see how AMD price this inititally. They'll need to be careful because I get the impression that nVidia could happily drop the prices of their top end cards in order to compete, which is great news for customers but possibly less great news for AMD's profits. It'll also be intriguing to see what nVidia have waiting in the wings - how will the 980ti fit in to the price/performance comparison?
If those slides are accurate £750 - £800 is my guess less than a Titan but higher performance. It would sell at those prices but not to me or a few others I'd imagine. 780ti about £650 at current price points. I'd love to see the 390x at £500 if those slides are accurate and truly smash nvidia but can't see it happening. A price war would be good for us users.
I think it's safe to say the ti will slot in-between the 980 and TitanX, both in terms of performance and price, the question is are AMD going to price the 390x closer to TitanX pricing (£840) or 980 pricing (£430-500). Rumours have said it may cost around $700 (£450) but I just can't see it myself, not that i don't think that would be great to see, it's more that if rumours are to be believed supply of the 390x is going to be very low, and performance wise it goes toe-to-toe with a TitanX. I would love for it to be around the £450 mark and force Nvidia into lowering prices on its top end cards but then AMD faces problems with supply and lower profits.
Any more details on those rumours as every rumour I've seen says it won't, that it will sit between the 980 and TitanX.
Obviously none of us know and this is all speculation, but I was going on this. I tend to agree with Rollo, that it's going cost around the £750 - £800 mark.
I can see the core clock being 1127 or even 1203 tbh ; price wise though I agree - both the 390x and 980ti will be similar and over £700
Bucket of salt indeed! According to that article (and I use the word "article" in the loosest possible sense) it runs 4K faster than it runs 1600p.
I think the figures quoted on the charts are a percentage of performance, whith the performance of a 290x being used as the marker at 100% and the rest of the scores are in comparison to that, rather than being fps figures
Rumour has it arriving June 16th. Obviously Matt is here to remind us all of this, on the day of the 980ti lauch – basically he’s doing what a good PR person should be doing! I reckon with that AIO we're going to see some seriously high Core clocks.
