Not really NDA if he has brought the actual item in question. Not his fault that people make mistakes. They could ask him to give it back but little else. Id be inclined not too myself. Make a review of it and post it instead.

 

All that for a rebranded 290X? Call me when the Fury turns up...

Not a big surprise still awai FiJi and its cost rumours are suggesting it will be $999 on most websites.

The same architecture/re-brands are not exactly surprising.
It could be interesting and telling if they've got got the power usage substantially reduced, and if in addition to that they're selling 8GB and competitive performance at the right at price it could still be a compelling option.

Other than that, Fury/Fuji reviews will be the real news.

What? Why? Surely somewhere like Bit or Anandtech is going to do a better and more reliable review than some blogging twunt on YouTube? I mean, they're not going to actually talk about the card architecture at all, instead do a really bad benchmark compared to like, one other card.

I'd imagine that's the point. Delay the real reviews slightly to maximise the number of day 1 purchasers.

Also why isn't 390x a new architecture? What happened there? Is it just rumours still or as a good as fact.

 

Good as fact at this point. The 390X, at heart, is a 7970. Fury is apparently the new stuff, but it sounds like it might be expensive at launch or possibly delayed later than the 390X launch.

 

Well that's very strange to say the least and very disappointing. Having AMD flute about like this doesn't do the industry or the customers any good.

 

so the 390x is a 290x?

 

it isn't though, the 280x was a slightly re-jigged 7970 (and 280 was 7950), the 290 was a new card with GCN 1.1 (7970 was GCN 1.0)

7970/280x are 2048 stream processors, 128 TU, 32 ROPs, 384bit memory, GCN 1.0
290/290x is 2560/2816 stream processors, 160/176 TU, 64 ROPs, 512bit memory GCN 1.1

there was also the 285 which is GCN 1.2,

fury is just the incremental update to GCN, if the specs on wccftech are right the full die contains 4096 stream processors, 256 TU, 128 ROPs, 1gb memory, GCN 1.3??

so each implementation of GCN architecture seems to be an increase in texture units and ROPs in proportion to stream processors.

 

its looking like that, there were rumours of updating the 290 to GCN 1.2/1.3 (at least tonga based arch improvements, if not whatever changes the fury brings (remember its ~46% more cores, and double a lot of other components for 10w more power usage with similar frequencies))

however all the leaks seem to say rebrand but with more memory. however, its the 15th, so AMD will officially launch this stuff

 

Isn't a 280x just a rebranded 7970ghz edition ? (Clock speed wise).
