Guide DIY PCB etching - The UV way

most electronics stores should carry the chemicals.

 

Thats alot of work, but i must say much cheaper than sending it out.

Yes, they will be considerably slower than a purpose designed UV box though, but considerably cheaper, cardboard box, tin foil, two of those and you'll have something reasonable.

 

Not that you can get UV light tubes at Radioshack now.

They are made as replacement tubes for their line of UV Air Purifiers.

 

Tracing paper is good for artwork, and in my experience produces sharper prints on inkjets and is cheeper.

Transparencies are good on lasers... but make sure you get laser transparencies as others can melt!

 

i wanna use the iron on method too, read the link but couldn`t find the paper mentioned there - not sure i understood what kind of paper i`m looking for...

is it supposed to be an inkjet paper or is it transparency?
can i use the photopaper?
can anyone gimme some paper names good for this? i went down to the local office depot and to another paper/printer supplier @ my uni. couldn`t find anything that seemed good - it`s all photopaper these days

welp - i wasn`t sure and i found too many places on the internet which clamed different things like this place here - which clamed glossy photo sheets give best results and some other places like this one - which claims inkjet transparency should be used on the smooth? side...
welp i decided 2 give the transparencies a shot - so far i tried both the inkjet and normal (laser printer) transparencies - and both worked out to my excellent satisfaction - infact, since the normal transparencies are free of charge (we have lots of spair ones @ my workplace) i get to print and enjoy this no charge @ all and it only takes about a minute and a half of ironing - excellent quality - if anyone`s interested i can post pictures...
beats uv by far if u ask me - u just print, iron = no mad equipment or special coated boards - which are by the way impossible to acquire around here.

 

can you use a bunch of UV leds and just a frosted piece of glass to diffuse it??

crazy mod, man all these supplies are always hard for me to find.

anyway, i was wondering, if there was a was i could put the PCB design on

my side window. i don't mean replacing the entire side window, like a

transparent thin pcb design, that i could just tape on there.

So i can get some colorful effects. Hopefully, you understand what im saying.

Tip: When mixing up the caustic soda (NaOH) with water, do it reasonably slowly. Tipping one lot into the other caused a very dangerous boiling fountain of NaOH.
