Hi, Just looking at my PC which is just over 7years old and was wondering is it time to upgrade some of the parts? Below is my current spec. Any recommendation is appreciated Antec P182 Black Case (no PSU) Arctic Cool. Since you mention video editing you'd benefit from a quad. As such I'd recommend and i5 over the i3 or Pentium chips. You should also get more life out of it. You'll notice a huge benefit coming from a q6600. I did when buying a haswell chip from a q6600. Based on your budget I'd have recommended the following: New CPU New RAM New Mobo New GPU - R.I.P BFG That hard drive is probably archaic as well so you would probably benefit from a new hdd or better still an SSD and keep the hdd for storing data. You won't fit that in the budget though without compromising elsewhere. I'd recommend getting the base i5 (unless you plan to OC, more $$$) £142 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i5-4460-lga-1150-haswell-refresh-quad-core-32ghz-base-34ghz-turbo-1100mhz-gpu-84w-cpu-ret Z97 motherboards start at around £62 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigabyte-ga-z97p-d3-intel-z97-s1150-ddr3-pcie-30-%28x16%29-2-way-crossfirex-hdmi-atx Ram wise there are loads of options I'd recommend 8gb. 4gb is minimum 8gb should do most things and leaves you with the ability to upgrade to 16gb later if needed. You can get 2133mhz ram for about £45 or slower stuff for £40 not much really in it. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-%282x4gb%29-corsair-ddr3-vengeance-pro-series-silver-pc3-17066-%282133%29-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-11-11-1 GPU wise I'd recommend a 970 or 290x if you can still find one for around £250 - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-zotac-gtx-970-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1076mhz-boost-1216mhz-1664-cores-dp-dvi-hdmi That pretty much puts you on your £500 budget. If you needed to cut that down further I'd only really suggest cutting the GPU back but that will have an impact on gaming, depending on monitor resolution.
I would highly suggest waiting for Skylake, which is due very soon. It is roughly 10-20% faster clock for clock vs Haswell... well worth it.
It's meant to be August 5th, but it may be a few weeks after that. The cost will be approx. the same as Haswell/Devil's Canyon.
You're looking at a total rebuild, rather than a piecemeal upgrade. I'd keep saving until you can afford an i5, 115x mobo, 8GB of ddr 3/4 and SSD (plus windows 7/10, assuming you don't already have a retail copy of 7/8).
