Excellent modding there Zap I especially like the effect on the fan I'd love to see this case in real life though
Wait folks I am not done yet! Since I can't afford a LCD monitor just yet, and I would like to make my CRT match the PC when I take it to LAN Parties. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is my 17" MagInnovision 1600x1200 Monitor as photo'ed after I vinyl dyed it in October of '02 http://www.zapwizard.com/black_monitor ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WARNING: OPENING UP YOUR MONITOR CAN BE DANGEROUS OR FATAL DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU ARE VERY SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HARM THAT MAY COME TO YOU IF YOU ATTEMPT TO RECREATE THIS MODIFICATION ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a 4" cold cathode from www.coolerguys.com still left over, and it was begging to be used. So I mounted it up onto the monitor. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The power for the coldcathode was ran to a switch, then to the back of the monitors PCB ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The wire was then soldered up to +12volts. I just love it when companies label their PCB's clearly ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The switch was mounted in the back of the monitor. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I then powered up the monitor and tested the Cold Cathode ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The monitor was put back together, and powered up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MMMmmm... more glowing green goodness.
Awsome!!! DOH i answered my own question! one of your pics doesnt work... or is it me good you fixed it I knew you would slip up one of these days
zap, this is sweet, thank you for all the good times i've had watching this. i'm just sad to see this all ending now you can start the HTPC again
I would also like to add my thanks and well done for an inspiring project fro start to finish. Look forward to the next one
Mindblowing as usual! I love the effect of the LEDs shining out of the case casting interesting patterns on the ground. Ultrasweet. Will work every let you do a project for any of the Opteron model launches? if they don't, they should have their heads examined.
www0000000007777! its finally finished!! it looks <tony the tiger> GGGGGGGGREAT! </tony the tiger> it's quite bittersweet seeing the project end. BUT, like everyone has said, there's still the mediapc..... anyways, again - good work. everything looks great. (i agree about the desktop needing redoing, but it's better than the normal desktop in windows ) *EDIT* i was just thinking..... you could make your eye on your desktop an animated gif and make it blink and when it opens after blinking, turn into the half life symbol, then blink and go back to normal. it'd hog memory/resources, but it'd be cool for visuals/showing off at the lan. then just change it when you start a game... just an idea i had
thats funny, cos all my best programing / modding is done under the influence of something or other, but i agree, after a few days of not doing anything you can think more clearly. It's just not what i'm used to. lol
Securing Components Great job on the ammo box ZapWizard. A friend of mine is big into militaria and we're thinkin' of tryin out the same thing with some leftover parts we're pooling together. But I'd like to know how you secured the motherboard to the base of the ammo box as well as the instrumentation panel. Did you use velcro? Also, if I may ask, and I *don't* think it's been addressed yet, where did you get your Noritake VFD from? Thanks!
Re: Securing Components All the parts are pretty much press fit. The motherboard is held in place simply by having the other parts push upagainst it. (Not on any parts, but on the board it's self) The motherboard is mounted onto a plexi tray that I made though. Nothing in this PC rattles or makes noise when the PC is shaken. I bought the Noritake VFD off of eBay at the beginning of the year. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a confirmed spot at QuakeCon, number 1641 I hope I don't end up smack in the middle of the entire LAN Also nVidia called and I should be confirmed for the modding compotition. I am scheduled for 12:15 pm on Saturday, so come check it out if you are there.
