Hi all, I have an old PC with an ASUS M2v motherboard. There are 3 sata ports on the board but only 2 seem to be working. Only 2 show in BIOS (AMI), is there something I need to do to enable the third one .

Make sure that the option, "OnBoard Marvell6121 Controller" is enabled in the BIOS within the Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration menu. This wont show the hard drive in the BIOS but it should show it within Windows if the correct drivers are installed.

I really need 3 sata ports, I have found a PCI to sata card in my box of bits but not tried it yet as I would rather get the onboard working any further suggestions welcome.

the 2 that work are marked SATA1 and SATA2. The other is marked SATA_RAID1. There is also an external one on the back which the manual shows as SATA but it does not have the usual L shaped connector and standard SATA cable will not fit.

The rear connector is eSATA for external SATA devices. Have you installed the Marvell drivers? Do you have any hardware queries in Device Manager?
The Marvell controller only works with hard drives not CD/DVD drives.

Possibly not, could be the problem.
    Nothing showing in Device Manager.
