can someone PLZ recommend a good heatsink and fan for under £25 i built 4 AMD XP 1800+ with Asus A7v 266 systems for a mate and I used FOP32-1 for all of them he gets temps as high as 60 degrees while the machine are IDLE !!!!! I know that asus mobos report the temp 10 degrees higher than they should be but I have been building ASUS systems since the original A7v and none have gone over 55 degrees under load !

Alpha PAL8045 with Mechatronics 80mm fan........

Can anybody say 40 degrees load with the core at 1.85v?

    :D

P.S. This is over £25 :( The Taisol 760 is IMHO still the best for under £25 still but might still get a little warm unless you are willing to use a 60mm Delta fan.

you might wonna check the compatability list with that hs and mobo. i have the Asus A7V266-E, and the Alpha wont fit onto my mobo bcoz if its design. besides, that heatsink is more than 25 quid. quit a few people use taisol hsf, never used one my self tho, i think my bro gets around 55oC using a taisol

How do you OC your rig.

    Hey.

I have unlocked my XP1800+, but even if I adjust the Multiplier or the FSB it still runs at 1800+...............
What am I doing wrong ?
If my attempt in unlocking has gone wrong then why can't I
adjust the FSB ? (before I unlocked the L1 bridges I also could'nt
see any difference in speed when changing to a higher FSB).

    Please help.

I hate having a standard XP................

how did you unlocked your XP1800+?and what mobo you using? I have adjusted my FSB @ the moment I cant be bothered to take the CPU out AGIAN to unlock it properly but you might need to change the v core voltage as well ! mine is @ 1.8 v (i think cant remember properly).

    Asus V7700 Geforce2 64 Mb.

When I change the FSB and the Multiplier nothing hapens.
The system restarts and but normaly but only at 1800XP+

If you have revision 1.07 or later of this board then the Alpha should fit.....my Alpha fits my A7V266-E anyway! :)

Secondly, to get multipler adjustment on an unlocked AthlonXP on this board, there is a jumper referred to in the manual as 'PALO_FREQ' that must be set to the Athlon settings for it to allow multiplier adjustment. Dont know why, but it works fine with the jumper set to Athlon, and all the Palominos extras still work fine.

One thing to note, when this methoed is used on this board, the BIOS and Windows always detects the CPU as an XP2000 whatever speed it is actually running at. Luckily for me I have a chip that can go that far so my BIOS tells the truth :D

    Thank you will2k65

    Thank fore your help :)

    I'm now running my XP1800+@XP2000+
I would'nt have made it without your help.
    (You're actualy quite  )

    Just another question.

What piece of software could I check my exact speed with ?
I'm running on W2K fully opdated.
The system goes bad when trying WCPUID v3.0, is this not W2K supported ?

The Alpha is bigger than the Swiftech, and looks h00gely impressive, but the performance difference is negligible. Stick with the Swiftech!

    sjettal: Glad I could help!

As for checking cpu speed, other than wcpuid i'm not sure. Stuff like SiSoft Sandra or 3dmark2001 will do the job, but not as exactly as wcpuid. SETI@home also has some software that can measure your cpu speed pretty axactly, though I forget what its called :(
