Hi All I currently have some gear that I really need to get shot of. Ideally, I would like to consolidate some of the older stuff into a newer model, and drop a format all together. Currently I use a Canon FF, a Canon APS-C, several bits of Micro Four Thirds and Fuji APS-C (detailed list below). I'm hesitant to use Ebay due to being scammed as a seller in the past and I've never used Gumtree before. I'm based in Manchester for reference. Anyway, gear list; Canon 5DMk3 24-105mm f4 L Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 Sigma 50mm f1.4 Canon 550D Canon 18-55mm Kit lens Canon 50mm f1.8 Taron 18-270mm Panasonic GM1 Panasonic GX7 Panasonic 25mm f1.4 Panasonic 20mm f1.7 Panasonic 14-42mm Panasonic 12-32mm Fuji X Pro 1 Fuji 18mm f2 Fuji 27mm f2.8 Fuji 35mm f1.4 Ideally, I'd like to keep the 5DMk3 and lenses, then I'd like to shed everything else (except the Fuji primes) to invest in a Fuji XT-1. Anyone have any ideas where I can make this happen?
Wex do part exchange if you want to trade in the entire lot in one go. http://www.wexphotographic.com/partexchange/
It's not quite so simple. Some time ago I sold a Canon 5D on ebay and the buyer used it for a week, then opened a case in ebay saying that the body was "not as described" and I basically had no choice but to take it back from him and give him a full refund. The moral of the story: ebay is full of sh!ts who take advantage of the system. I can think of two alternatives which give you the option of face-to-face dealing. 1) I've had great success selling camera gear on gumtree, however the main problem with gumtree is that people often leave you high and dry after agreeing to buy or view your gear. I'm afraid that's just part of life! 2) if you have a Facebook account, look up your local Facebay. I recently sold our TV on Facebay in just 2 minutes after posting the item for sale, and the deal went like a charm. Whilst there are people who will drop large amounts of money on goods that are sold privately over long distances (I've sold an air rifle for £600, and a drum kit for £2K, both on gumtree and the buyers put the money into my account, no questions asked) I wouldn't hold your breath.
I think the point there was perhaps that the buyer was after a loaner camera for a week, but didn't want to pay for it. Or at least that's how the cynic in me interprets that. I think I'll fire off some emails to wex. In the very least, that'll give me a baseline value to work with. Cex do offer the service too, but with them not being a camera specialist, I'm unsure as to how competitive their quotes will be.
Nailed it. He complained about a memory card error, which was a PITA on two counts: it made me genuinely worry about an item I'd sold as fully functional with no faults; and it made me really angry when I had to issue a refund for a camera that I received exactly as I had sent it to the buyer... in full working order. The BS people come up with is just beyond annoying. Back on topic, I've had very positive experience of Wex and I hope you get a good offer from them.
MPB are good too - sold (and part ex/purchased) quite a bit from them over the years and they've always been decent on pricing and their service has been excellent.
Photography gear I always sell it via the forum TalkPhotography, their classified policy is slightly more strict than BT, but I've always had good dealings on there. Although be prepared to price your stuff slightly higher than what you want, people on there will always make the lowest offers. I guess I can't tempt you away from the Fuji 35mm f1.4 with some money?
LOL. That lens is actually my newest. I bought it last month and haven't even had a chance to see what it can do. So while I appreciate the offer, Im keeping the Fuji lenses for now. They're quite special little things.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I've spent all day digging through boxes and leads to get all the pieces together ready to get some quotes in. Annoyingly I've lost the box for the gm1 and the lens hood for the pan/leica 25mm. God knows where they've gotten to.
