Forget the new series of Robot Wars - we need some vacuum cleaner tug of war going on.

Yup, with a 2 year warranty as standard it'd be daft to pay full whack

Just picked up this 65" Bravia from John Lewis for £1200 to replace my ageing 46" Philips. Really wanted the flat LG OLED but couldn't justify spending over £3k on one knowing they'll probably be half that price in a year's time. It's only 1080p but I can't really see 4k/UHD becoming mainstream for at least another year anyway, at which point the large 4k OLEDs should be much more affordable.

I see you've been dusting off your pun book. Good work.

Man I'm going to be laughing so hard at this post in about 730 days.

So I was passing a house clearance today and saw this...

I remember seeing one as a kid and being completely fascinated, so it was hard to resist.

Check out the mahoosive quantity of RAM:

I don't have any spare batteries to try it out, but the mains powers the micro-cassette and printer/plotter. It even comes with spare pens and paper:

Though it might sicken me I have to ask how much you paid for that, it looks like it's not been taken out of the box in 20 years.

    Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SP with a mint Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 V1
I already have a Super-Multi-Coated Tak 50/1.4, but having read so much about the early "Zeiss-killer" version I couldn't resist picking this one up for a fraction of what they go for on eBay (in worse condition). Apparently these were optically so difficult to produce Asahi lost money on every copy and quietly simplified the lens formula once the reviews vs. the Zeiss Planar 50/1.4 were out. Unlike the later versions this has no radioactive element.
Some quick testing shows this one is quite a bit sharper wide open than the SMC version (which is already known as one of the sharpest 50/1.4s of its time), and strangely enough the depth of field is much smaller, but of course it doesn't have the wonderful Super-Multi-Coating so it suffers badly from flare.
I'll have to test out both versions some more to decide which one I'll keep. Or maybe I'll keep both. :p

I got given a Dyson Ball when my upstairs neighbour moved out and I've got to say I hate it :/

I think its form over function, and its a total pain in the arse to take the thing apart to clean...

    Anyway.

Just paid the remainder for our trip to Japan in May. Flying to Tokyo then hopping around by train a bit to Takayama, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka before another loooooong couple of flights via Dubai.

    Should be fun.

After being woefully unimpressed with a REL Habitat 1 on account of its limited ability to produce anything much lower than the point my mains start to fade (which even if it's a "lifestyle" product, is inexcusable for the price they ask - I guess they mean for it to be paired with "lifestyle" mains), I changed strategy and instead of trying to hide a sub the old fashioned way, I'd hide it in plain sight.

So, onward and upward with a BK XXLS400 in a bespoke finish to match the furniture.

Very pleased with it, but then I've been delighted with a BK Monolith for many years in my AV setup, so that wasn't surprising. The wife also thinks it looks good, so mission accomplished.

It was fairly quick to integrate by ear for starters, though I'll look for some SW to do sweeps at some point to get it spot on. The problem with doing it by ear is that there's always the odd track the overly inflates the bass which messes with the process.
